    Open the registry and go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{<CLSID in the event message>} to find out the "friendly" name of this component. In this case: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{C97FCC79-E628-407D-AE68-A06AD6D8B4D1}

    Next go to Component Services via Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Components Services. Expand the Component Services branch then expand Computers > My Computer > DCOM Config. Right-click on the component name you found above and choose Properties. Select the Security tab and under Launch and Activation Permissions select Use Default. Click OK, close the Component Services window.

    Hopefully this will fix the error.

    I have followed your direction but do not find {C97FCC79-E628-407D-AE68-A06AD6D8B4D1} under the DCOM Config folder. I have scanned through the entries a half a dozen times...

    Could adding and removing user accounts affect this?

    I have found APPID {344ED43D-D086-4961-86A6-1106F4ACAD9B} behind the name IPBusEnum but the settings are grayed out so I can't change them.

    OK, yea, the item is found here: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{C97FCC79-E628-407D-AE68-A06AD6D8B4D1}

    IPBusEnum service - The PnP-X bus enumerator service manages the virtual network bus. It discovers network connected devices using the SSDP/WS discovery protocols and gives them presence in PnP.

    See in Services what your settings for the PnP-X bus enumerator are. Mine are set to Manual & the service isn't running.

    The service was set to start automatic and was running. I changed it to manual and stopped the service but the error message persists in Event Viewer even after a reboot.

    I would ignore the error. Everything is working right?

    I removed Windows 7 and reinstalled XP. It is an old machine so I will retire it. Please close this thread. Not resolved but now irrelevant.
