This morning when I started up my laptop, a note came up whch stated "Runtime error. "

Looking this up on the web, I noticed there were a number of downloads claiming they can solve this problem. It was also mentioned that my Registry could be clogged up as well as the hard drive.

For a long time I have been having many freeze ups, programs not being ended when I clock the X, and slowness in operating.

Any help with solving these issues would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance,

A "runtime error" is a generic term for a software or hardware problem that prevents a program from working correctly. Runtime errors might cause you to lose information in the file you're working on, cause errors in the file (corrupt the file) so you can't work with it, or prevent you from using a feature. Unlike stop errors, runtime errors don't typically cause Windows or a program to stop working.

Runtime errors can occur if you are running two software programs that are not compatible, if your computer has memory problems, or if the computer has been infected with malicious software (malware).

To eliminate the possibility of some kind of malware infection, recommend reading this post and then posting the requested log(s) in our Malware and Virus Removal forum.

If you are still having the same issue after being given a clean bill of health from one of our malware experts, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you/them solve the problem.

Please forgive me for not responding before now. A few minutes after I sent in the query my laptop screen light went very dim and I was not able to see anything. I took it to a tecnician who managed to get it fixed today. I will do what you have recommended and advise. Thank you.

Thank you SpywareDr. I shall mark this post resolved, reason being that since the tech worked on it yesterday it seems he has cleared up most of the issues. the Runtime error note does not come up any more when I boot up, and the pages close promptly when the X is clicked. For years I have had Microsoft Security Essentials which is set to run every day and I always keep it fully updated.
