I have a PC with a recently new clean install of Win XP Pro sp3. All updates have been installed. When I try and open the security center from Control Panel something happening with rundll32.exe. I double clik the security icon and get an hour glass for about 2 sec and then it disappears and nothing else happens. Then when I go to shut down I get the msg that rundll32.exe needs to shut down and asks if I want to do it manualy. If I dont it just sits there and does nothing. So Im forced to say shut down now.
After a fresh reboot if I dont try and open up Security Center and proceed to use the PC for various tasks, then when I shut down the PC everything goes AOK and it shuts down like its supposed to.
I ran Ad-Aware and found some stuff to remove and did so.
I use AVG virus and have also done a scan and found nothing.
Ive done a search here but found nothing that involves the security center and rundll32.exe. So where do I go from here?? Hope you guys can help.
    Thanx!!

Ad-Aware hasn't been used for years by many people. Used to be pretty good, but they have went by the wayside.
Go to the Malware section and post what problem you are having and do the logs as requested.

While you are at it, go to User CP near the top left and fill out your System Specs. Don't forget to scroll to the bottom of the page and save them.

rundll32.exe must be shut down manualy

Well Im back, I still have the same orginal problem. I cant get into security center by way of control panel. I get an hour glass for about 1 sec and then nothing happens. Once I try to get into security center something is happening because then when I try and shut down I get a msg. that rundll32.exe cannot shut down and I must do it manualy or it will just sit there and do nothing. From a fresh reboot I can do anything else with no problem and then shut down normaly with no problem. Some thing about trying to get into security center causes this problem.
Just spent three days with the Malware forum and Broni who tryed to help me but finally declared me totaly clean and said he could do nothing more. Suggested I try back here again for additional help.
    HELP!!!!!
    Thanx!

Don't have much more to offer than backup what you need and reinstall. If you need help on backing up post what you need and somebody will help you.

rundll32.exe must be shut down manualy

    Thanx for the speedy reply!
This is what I thought all along.
This was a clean install about 2 months ago but my problem was the XP disc I have was of the first generation. Loading in all the updates took forever. Approx 3 days. Is there a faster way of getting all these updates installed??
If not I guess I go for it again with the long way.
    Thanx!

Download SP2 from MS after you do the reinstall. Then SP3 and go from there. You can make a slipstream disc of Windows and SP3
