Thank you for jumping in here.

I am gald to see some new ideas.

That is something that I do know of but had not thought of and I see as a possibility.

The NIC has to be getting power from somewhere. And that just might be it.

And that is one reason why I suggested that ALL power be off before pulling the card.

Mine does too. The link light is on steady and the ACT light blinks constantly.

I will check on the BIOS to see what is on or off there. Would the lights still go off if the NIC card is "sleeping "? I would think the lights would stay on, but I don't know for sure. I will also double check the shut down messages. Get back to you tomorrow.

Okay, this is what I have. Shut down messages are:

    Logging off
    Saving Settings
    Windows is shutting down

These are the messages that it has always given, that I know of.

I went into BIOS and disabled the WOL feature for my NIC card. No change.

An update on this problem. It's been hard to find time to monkey around with things, so I apologize for the late update.

I decide to try one more thing this morning. I repalced the NIC card in my XP system with the card in my Win98 system. Just to rule out a bad card. What do you know, the lights stayed off after a shut down. I shut down the system a couple times and the lights stayed off every time. All this time for a $15 card. Isn't that the way it goes?

I will be off to Charter tomorrow to get a replacement. Hopefully, no more troubles after I install the new one. Thanks again for your continued efforts/suggestions with this. It is much appreciated!
