Rolling & distorted screen on boot up

    Oh I think we complement each other, adds credence to our statements.

    Sure the storm could have done something. Or it could have been a coincidence.

    True. But of course everything was working fine before the storm. The thing that I can't understand is what exactly is being affected? Why is it only doing this on the boot up screen, during the error scan, the direct x diagnostic for the graphics, and finally when I tried to play the Jedi Knight 2 demo game? And everything is working perfectly during normal computer use?

    Your monitor has different settings for different resolutions, obviously the timing is out in those modes causing the distortions. Other graphic modes can be fine but there's no certainty they'll stay that way.

    Right. And it must change resolutions at least once during each boot, and the monitor and card have to resync each time.

    Well, with that being the case, then this most likely sounds like a monitor problem.

    I just tried the testing of the plug in the back for the monitor and it's still doing it on the boot up screen.
