Which get us back to my point made in post #17.

Anyway, Windows Virtual PC is a free download. Microsoft might have wanted to include that functionality, but there's a good chance they would get sued if they did.

How much Windows 8 should be priced

    The world has changed!

The purpose of Windows 8 as to Microsoft is to survive itself from OS X + iOS of Apple and Android of Google. If we look at the price of OS X, it's free when you buy a new Mac and iOS is free when you buy an iPhone. Even if you have a reason to buy/download the OS X Lion, it's A$31.99 and OS X Lion Server is A$51.99. I don't see a reason Windows 8 can price at premium now. It's just a new user interface (Metro) with a refined Windows Vista engine. Nevertheless, the Tiles sacrifice PC usability in order to give a unified look to tablet and mobile versions. So, why PC users should pay for it?

If Microsoft is aiming at retaining existing consumer interest (not the corporates), Microsoft should give free upgrade to Windows XP, Vista if still around, 7 and 8 Consumer Preview.

Microsoft should also give Windows 8 for free to Mac users so Microsoft can sell Windows 8 apps into Mac, Parallels, VMware Fusion and Virtual Box users.

Maybe Windows Nine can price higher when Microsoft can survive the Windows 8.

The "Fun" with Apple is that you have to pay for point upgrades.

    • March 2001: 10.0
    • September 2001: 10.1
    • August 2002: 10.2
    • October 2003: 10.3
    • April 2005: 10.4
    • October 2007: 10.5
    • August 2009: 10.6
    • July 2011: 10.7

    Windows:

    • October 2001: Windows XP
    • January 2007: Windows Vista
    • October 2009: Windows 7

Microsoft does not sell computers/phones, so you are not going to get the OS for free. Neither do you get any of the other OS for free, it's part of the purchase price.

    They shouldn't & they won't!

    Yea right.
