Evan, what do you think about the solid state drive that Neil recommended?

If you can afford the SSD that Neil recommended and you don't mind having less space than the drive that I recommended then I'd say go for it.

Just a question Evan, I assume Sallie has Dual HDD system and I wonder if a 500GB HDD plus the existing one would work OK or slow down the comp?
HP specs show a 250GB in each holder to give a max of 500GB's. Neil.

It depends on what data is stored on the secondary drive Neil. If its only being used as a storage drive then it won't slow down the machine.

But IMO you should just use one hard drive and store the operating system and your data on it.

Hi Gentlemen, I have learned so much from all of you and every troubling experience I have gives me much more knowledge. I always print out all the help and put it in a file for future reference. We have a little computer group in our town and in the last year a Guru joined the group. He sits back and observes most of the time but will answer if you query him. I sent him and email when my laptop died and he hasn't been at class the last few weeks. Last night he said I could bring my laptop today and he would see if he could find anything on the sick drive. I was busy getting everything I might need ready this morning and thinking I did everything right. He was looking at the drive with a version of Linux and realized he was looking at the "image" I had on the 250GB drive. I put the wrong drive in the #1 slot. He also told me that my Windows 7 DVD wasn't an upgrade at all. The wording "includes Window anytime upgrade" fooled me. He said go home and put the windows 7 disc in the drive and turn on your computer. It took less than an hour and it was done. I got all the updates and an antivirus program on. It seems to be working nicely. I will wait a bit before I put windows 8 on. I will be able to keep my programs and documents when I do that.

Thank all of you for your patience and generosity with your time and expertise. You are always the first place I look for help. I am grateful that you take care of us.

    Best regards, Sallie
