    Will do.
I have to work tomorrow :( so it will be in the evening.

HijackThis is a utility that produces a listing of certain settings found in your computer. HijackThis wills scan your registry and various other files for entries that are similar to what a Spyware or Hijacker program would leave behind. Interpreting these results can be tricky as there are many legitimate programs that are installed in your operating system in a similar manner that Hijackers get installed. Therefore you must use extreme caution when having HijackThis fix any problems. I can not stress how important it is to follow the below warning.

HijackThis is an advanced tool, and therefore requires advanced knowledge about Windows and operating systems in general. If you delete items that it shows, without knowing what they are, it can lead to other problems such as your Internet no longer working or problems with running Windows itself. You should also attempt to clean the Spyware/Hijacker/Trojan with all other methods before using HijackThis. If you allow HijackThis to remove entries before another removal tool scans your computer, the files from the Hijacker/Spyware will still be left on your computer and future removal tools will not be able to find them.

    Hi Claudine
    I have a question.
When you got this error, are you sure this is the correct spelling?
    C:\Windows\system32\GetValu.vbs

Did you copy and paste this or did you write it out and post it?

Please note that after restarting in Normal mode Ewido detected a Trojan...forgot it's name however yesterday the other Trojan.Nebula was still there as Norton Antivirus detected it once again (malware)...what shall we do to remove these trojans...the program trojan remover seems to be no good. Moreover when re-opening Ewido and looking at the status...although when previously whilst in safemode I put the trojan and other spyware to quarantine now they don't show in the quarantine section. why?

    thanks for your help

    Hi Claudine
Please follow the instructions carefully with ewido. You may want to print them out.
See it says "No action taken" make sure you set the settings just as written.

Please run ewido again and post it's log here.

    No, not at this time.

    Hi bombagirl

This may or may not be good enough. I will need to see the log. system32 is not the only place trojans hide.
That is what we were trying to do.

If it is quarantined it is no threat.

I don't believe it is a problem. Is it only when you ran smitfraud?
The maker of smitfraud will be informed to see if this is a problem. I have never seen this happen before.

I will check this evening, It's off to work now.

    Geri

    Hi Claudine
    That's fine.

OK Here is the next step.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan only. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Ybtxyr] C:\WINDOWS\system32\WNSXS~1\SERINI~1.EXE
    O16 - DPF: {266B9238-31A5-4B53-9039-272FE846DF9D} (DiameterTransfer Control) - http://www.sis.com/download/SISTransfer.cab
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: winzlo32 - winzlo32.dll (file missing)
    O21 - SSODL: incestuously - {03413bf7-e34c-445b-bfc0-a2b127255871} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\urroxtl.dll (file missing)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

    Close HJT.

    Reboot into safe mode.
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore "), please delete these files (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\WNSXS~1\SERINI~1.EXE <<Delete the file that begins with these first 6 letters (SERINI)
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\urroxtl.dll

    After that, Reboot.

Please post a new HJT log here.
    Thanks
    Geri

    Hi Claudine

OK Very Good, You did it :D Your log is clean.

There are just some miner steps now.
We need to delete your Temp folder and set a new restore point.

This program will delete temporary folders and help keep junk from storing up on your system.

    Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
    Click "Options... "
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp! "
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
    • Empty Recycle Bins
    • Delete Cookies
    • Delete Prefetch files
    • Cleanup! All Users
    Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click Yes.

We need to turn off then on system restore.

You must be logged in as an Administrator to do this. If you are not logged in as an Administrator, the System Restore tab will not be displayed.
Turning off System Restore will clear out all previous restore points.
To turn off Windows XP System Restore:
NOTE: These instructions assume that you are using the default Windows XP Start Menu and have not changed to the Classic Start menu. To re-enable the default menu, right-click Start, click Properties, click Start menu (not Classic) and then click OK.

    1. Click Start.
    2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the System Restore tab.
    4. Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives"
    5. Click Apply.
    6. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this.
    7. Click OK.
    8. Restart the computer and follow the instructions in the next section to turn on System Restore.

To turn on Windows XP System Restore:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the System Restore tab.
    4. Uncheck "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives. "
    5. Click Apply, and then click OK
    Make a new restore point.

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
    1. AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
    2. SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
    3. SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
    4. IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
    5. Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.

Make sure you keep any and all programs updated, and scan your system at least once a week with SpyBot S/D and AdAware.

To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein

Then if you would do something for us.
I would like to have that script file scanned. and the file sent to a person.

      Jotti File Submission:
      • Please go to Jotti's malware scan
      • Copy and paste the following file path into the "File to upload & scan "box on the top of the page:
        • C:\Windows\system32\GetValue.vbs
      • Click on the submit button
      • Please post the results in your reply.

Sometimes this site is very busy, so please be patient.

Then please attach the file to a email and send it to....

coppertopATpersonainternet (insert @ in place of AT)

      Thank You
      Geri

EDIT: fixed email to avoid spambot harvest
