Resolved Removing Acronis Backup software.

    Two files refuse to complete are;

    .NET Framework version 4 on XP Server 2003.

    .NET Framework version 4 for Vista, Windows 7...

    The only suggestion I'd have at this point is to disconnect all devices/cards from your computer, so only the graphics card (if it is a separate card) and hard drive + keyboard & mouse are attached.

    Then try reinstalling Windows. Next reinstall drivers, then apply the last service pack, then use Windows Update.

    If that doesn't work it's probably time to junk the hardware :D

    I entirely agree with you, perhaps the time has come when current computer is no longer reliable and best ditched. I appreciate and thank all members who kindly assisted me in trying to fix the errors. A Comet salesman, did say if your computer is older than eighteen months old, time to buy a new one.

    I have successfully restored the Backup facility, fault lay with two update files that I had a feeling to be envolved but could not update. Another reason was Backup did not like the hard drive to be connected to USB via the use of a USB hub.
