    Hi Broni,

Yes, those two files are still sitting in the Quarantine file:

*** Look at C:\Qoobox\Quarantine, if those files are still there:
    c:\windows\system32\mfc70.dll
    c:\windows\system32\mfc71.dll

They have an additional .vir extension on them.

*** I can see one entry from Spybot. Do you still use it, or it's just a leftover?

Yes, I've been using Spybot for years. I update it fairly regularly and do periodic scans.

I put a check next to all the items you mentioned using Hijack and fixed them, but not not much changed. The Toolbar restrictions are still there. It's possible one of the utilities put that restriction in place, but I don't recall ever setting it myself. Maybe it was a default setting???

I still have the error on boot up left over from ComboFix. Fixing the item in Hijack didn't seem to remove it. Here is the new log file:

    1. Please open Notepad
    • Click Start , then Run
    • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

    2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

    3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

    4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

    5. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), check if mfc70.dll, and mfc71.dll files are back in c:\windows\system32

    Then....

    Disable TeaTimer:
Right click Spybot's TeaTimer System Tray Icon.
    Click Exit Spybot-S&D Resident.
    TeaTimer closes.
Try to fix both O6 entries again.

    Then...

    Go Start>Run, type in:
    cmd
    Click OK.

    At command prompt, type in:
    sc stop A80119B4B1DA090AF43F1A43B51E8CCA
    Hit Enter.
Wait for the service to be stopped.

    Type in:
    sc delete A80119B4B1DA090AF43F1A43B51E8CCA
    Hit Enter.
    Wait for confirmation.

Restart computer. Report on progress, and post fresh HJT log.

    Hi Broni,

    OK, all directions followed.

The two files appear to have been successfully taken out of quarantine. The two files are back in the System32 directory. No change though, however, on the error with Microsoft Outlook even after reboot. Bummer.

Incidentally, I was able to successfully upload that sptd4733.sys file to that web site that can check it for virsues. I uploaded the copy from the Quarantine folder. It "appears" to be clean. I can post the results file if you'd like.

I had already turned off Tea Timer, but I double checked just to be sure. It is off for sure.

Did Fix Selected on the two you said. They still come back after a fresh reboot. Grrrr....

I also ran the CMD you gave and that has successfully removed the error on startup. Cool!

Little by little, we're making some progress :)
I'm not gonna worry about Outlook issue for now.
The most important thing is to make sure, your computer is clean.

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
    Download Mirror #1
    Download Mirror #2

    • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
    • Vista users:: Right click on SystemLook.exe, click Run As Administrator
    • Copy the content of the following box into the main textfield:
    • Click the Look button to start the scan.
    • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

Actually, as I can see now, those keys have harmless values (0), which means no restrictions are set, but I don't like to see those entries in HJT log.

Open Notepad, and paste following text into it:

Save the file as fix.reg to your desktop.
Right click on fix.reg, and click Merge.
Allow registry merge, and disregard any other querying.

    Restart computer.
    Post fresh HJT log.

Ok, followed the instructions. The entries now appear to be gone from HiJack. Cool!

    Broni,

Before following the steps you posted, I have two questions:

    1. Do I need to save a backup of that sptd4733.sys file in case it's legit and it's removal is making the Outlook error?

    2. My ETrust doesn't seem to want to update itself. Is this just fall out from whatever it was that hit the computer?

    Thanks.

    1. Sure thing.
    2. Infection removal may have an impact on some programs, so I'd suggest reinstalling Office, and eTrust.

Are there any other problems at this moment?

    OK sounds good.

I haven't started your other steps (busy day and evening for me) yet, but I should get to those later this evening. I will update you on the results.

    Thanks.

    Broni,

So far everything seems to be running well after following your steps. I still have the Outlook error and ETrust doesn't seem to update though.

I could not uninstall combofix using your instructions. If you recall, I had "issues" downloading it.

I still have all the folders that ComboFix created. Should I just delete those manually? Also, should I delete all the utilities I have littered across my Desktop now? :)

What utilities do you recommend having? I've had Ad-Aware and Spybot for years, but it seems they miss many things. For example, The Malwarebytes Ani-Malware and SuperAntispyware seemed to find things the other two didn't. Should I just keep them all around and scan regularly with all?

Delete Combofix icon from the desktop, then delete these three folders:
    C:\Qoobox
    c:\Combofix
    c:\tools-av\16274\16274.exe

I recommend, you uninstall Ad-aware, and Spybot, since they're rather the tools of the past.
Keep Super, and Bytes, and run them on occasion, or when you feel, your computer is misbehaving.

I'm going to mark this thread as resolved since your computer is clean.

Try to reinstall Office, and eTrust, and if there are any problems, start new topic about it.
