    Much of that was surely was battery. Notebooks today are much thinner and lighter in great part to advances in battery technologies. And with much longer run times too. Monitors are much thinner too.

    I am currently using an ultra thin notebook. I wonder how they are able to squeeze in all the parts in such a slim form factor.

    If they could give out the secret, perhaps I could do it to myself too. :D

    Well, they do it by using proprietary parts for one. They also use low profile heatsinks and fans - which is a bad thing, IMO. The problem is they can pack the power in such tiny cases, but they cannot pack the cooling. Considering even large tower cases using multiple large fans are challenged to keep the innards cool, it is no wonder notebooks have to frequently toggle down in performance to stay cool. This is especially true as the notebooks age, and more and more heat trapping dust is packed inside, with no easy user access for thorough cleaning. :(
