    Just had a thought......

Look for disabled services such as "plug N play" via adminstrators tools. Long shot but still worthy enough to check out.

Definitely Wildfire, I will keep that in mind;). I will try to get an optical drive, but at the moment it's beyond my financial means..
Thank you for your positive feedback goddez1:). I will take a closer look but I'm pretty sure after the many times I have searched through bios, the option to enable or disable plug n play devices isn't available.

Not sure if it's the same thing but I do have a usb keyboard for music that is plug and play that is working without any issues, so I would assume that plug and play devices are enabled. I have tried to unplug that as well just in case it was causing this issue.

At the moment I have obtained an 8GB usb memory stick and I will soon attempt to boot with Ubuntu as previously instructed, but I'm going to go over everything a couple times to make sure I'm doing it right.

I should also mention that I bought a windows usb keyboard and it alone did not fix the problem.

I might have misspoken, because I definitely run XP on that machine and always have. I could have meant that I don't have the actual disc.

I'll be completely honest with you in saying that learning the importance of updates and service packs is new territory for me. I'm sure from your perspective, it would seem ridiculous that I'm three years late on SP3, but until recently I didn't even know what service packs are for, not sure that I do even now:eek:.

Ok Wildfire, after many hours of attempting to boot through Ubuntu, I have learned that my desktop is unable to boot from a USB. I will try and obtain an optical drive within the next day or so and go from there. If in the mean time you can think of anything I would be more than happy to give anything and everything a try.

Alright. After working some magic, I have obtained an optical drive and booted through Ubuntu. In Ubuntu I was able to use the keyboard without any issues what so ever...

In which case a repair install/clean install would appear to be your next option. I'd start looking for factory recovery discs.
