I've installed three VMs on Hyper-V and they all exhibit the same two problems.

    1. When I go to full screen, the desktop doesn't fill the screen, but stays the same size with a large black border surrounding the desktop.

    2. I don't get any audio.

The three VMs are 64 bit distros of Linux (Ubuntu, Debian and Mint).

Hyper-V doesn't provide a virtual audio device. If you want audio, you need to use RDP (i.e. connect via Remote Desktop Connection to your VM) to get the virtual audio support working.

rsinfo, I did the installs listed in the notes for Ubuntu LTS 16.04 and it didn't fix the either problem.
Arie, I guess it's getting beyond my level of expertise to implement to solution you recommended. I may live with the problems I have with Hyper-V. My BIOS doesn't support the option that would allow me to install a 64 bit OS in Oracle's Virtual box and the VM runs a lot faster in Hyper-V than it does in VirtualBox. Neither problem should keep me from doing what I want to do. My goal is to learn how to use Linux. I may just buy an inexpensive used laptop for the project or a Raspberry Pi.
Thanks to both of you for the reply to my post.

I think I should close this thread, but I don't see how to do it on your new system.

Good for you. There is no need to spend money on laptop. Just keep working in HyperV. At first it may be difficult but as you gain experience, everything would be fine. Plus you are also gaining experience of HyperV.
