Does the computer freeze up when you install the McAfee software or do you get an error message? Without knowing the exact details of the error we can only make guesses on how to resolve the problem.

Did you try right clicking on the McAfee setup file and selecting Run as administrator?

Can you give us the link where you downloaded the McAfee software? Did you download the program from this link, McAfee Security from Bell?

I know I am kind of dodging on how to fix this issue here but you do know that Windows 8 already includes Windows Defender AKA Microsoft Security Essentials which would already be adequate for your security software instead of using McAfee. Is there any reason you want to use the McAfee software in the first place instead of just using Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall?

Personally, using Windows Defender or Microsoft Security Essentials and the Windows Firewall along with Spybot Search & Destroy, and SpywareBlaster do a good job at protecting your system from threats. Those programs are both free and I've been using that combination of security programs for years and have never had any problems.

You could also install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware which is one of the best malware removal tools available. You can use that program as an on demand scanner to scan your PC every once in a while to make sure no threats have gotten onto your system.

Programs like McAfee and Norton I don't care for since most of the time they are not free to use and they use a lot more resources than Microsoft Security Essentials/Windows Defender.

If you still want to use the McAfee software then let me know and I will keep trying to help you to resolve this problem otherwise you could use the security programs that I linked to and your computer will be just as safe from malware infections.
