I've used Media Player for years to burn cd's. Today I had a couple of playlists I wanted to burn to cd's. The first one went fine. When I went to burn the second one I got a message "Windows Media Player has encountered a problem while burning the file to the disc." I tried several blank cd's and even rebooted the computer. It still won't work. The version of Media Player is 12.0.7600.16667. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Have you tried to burn a CD with another program? I'd almost bet that your HP computer has another burning program installed.

If that doesn't work, then it may very well be possible that your CD drive is going bad. I've had a few go bad on me over the years.

I tried burning the cd using some other software and it worked, so I guess the cd drive is fine. The problem just seems to be in Media Player.

I'm bumping this to make sure it is clear that even though I was able to burn a disk with a different program, I'm still hoping for suggestions regarding getting the problem resolved in Media Player. Thanks.

What kind of media files are you trying to burn? (MP3, WMA, etc.) Could it be possible that some of your music files of the wrong format, or do not have digital rights?

The files were wma files. The weird thing is I burned one disk of wma files from the same source, then couldn't burn the second disk.

I just noticed that your version of Media Player is outdated compared to mine. My Version is 12.0.7601.17514. Try updating your player and see if that helps. I am running Windows 7 too.

EDIT: Did you get some sort of error code number after the mishap occurred?

I think to update Media Player I have to update IE first. Before I can do that, I have to do some updates to Windows 7. I haven't had the opportunity to do that yet.
