    OK, reinstalled windows 98 after a reformat with my harddrive installation disks.

    Reinstalled all devices/drivers... no "!" in the device manager.
    then reinstalled printer.

    still did not print. this was the error I got when trying to print a test page.

    RUNDLL32 caused a general protection fault
    in module EPIJNL70.DRV at 0003:00006965.

    This was Epsons responce.

    Thank you for contacting the Epson Connection.

    A General Protection Fault (GPF) occurs when two Windows services attempt
    to access the same memory address simultaneously which results in a system
    freeze or Fatal Exception (blue screen) error. As this is an issue directly
    with the Operating System of your computer, we are unable to assist. The
    best thing that we can suggest to do would be to contact your computer
    vendor or Microsoft for assistance in resolving. You can contact Microsoft
    at (800) 426-9400 or www.microsoft.com for further information and
    troubleshooting steps related to this issue.

    Your continuted help is greatly appreciated.

    Either a bad driver or driver conflict. Did you try using the downloaded drivers rather than from the cd? Did you try disabling any other devices? Different USB port?

    Se?

    If that's a USB printer, w98 doesn't support it; you need second edition to support it unless the drivers are special for 98.

    By golly, I think you nailed it sparrow. I had jumped around all over the Epson site and saw references to use with 98 everywhere, but upon further digging, I found this;

    Operating Systems

    Windows USB - Windows 98 SE, 2000, Me and XP;

    Looks like a good time for that upgrade, Mr. Baloo. :rolleyes:

    At this point since you do have a W2K upgrade CD and have slicked your system recently, I'd suggest you use the CD and do a clean W2K install.
