My Pc has started powering off with no warning. There are times where I hit a webpage and it turns off also. Alot of the time it just turns off when you try to resume from a locked session. If its any help the os Im running is windows 7, in lavalys everest the cpu temperature is 43, cpu diod is 49, mobo is 27 and hd is 31 so dont think its and overheating problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated cos I need my pc for the work I do :)

A failing/faulty power supply can cause this.

Yeh thats what i'm hoping but thought I would seek some further advice I do have another one but its 24 pin header and my board only supports 10 so waiting on a lead to convert 24-20. Thanks for confirming this for me though the psu is about 5 years old now so guess its had its days :)

Ummmm, I doubt that. 20 has been the ATX Form Factor standard for the last 15 years, with 24 coming in only in the last couple years. And with the majority of 24-pin PSUs, the last 4 pins can 'break-away" into a separate 4-pin and 20-pin connectors, or even just hang off the end of the 20-pin motherboard connector.

There are many other things that can cause your problem. Heat is a primary, but I agree, your temps look fine. Failing RAM, failing CPU, or failing motherboard can too. Leaky capacitors on the motherboard can cause sudden crashes, reboots, or power offs. You need to inspect them carefully.

But, the first place to look in almost any hardware issue is the PSU - you must make sure you are feeding good power to the system.

Well, groaning noise could be bad bearings, or the transformer, or something else. But the same advise applies - I would start with the PSU.

We encourage all members to complete their System Specifications which help us to help you :) We're working in the dark without them, so once your graphics are restored .....

Check all of the power connections to the motherboard and your graphics card if appropriate.

You have not completed the final stage .....
Is the new PSU the same or greater capacity than the old one?

If you are sure that all connections are made as they should be I would temporarily hitch up the old PSU and see if the problem is resolved and draw your own conclusions.

I suspect that the new PSU is faulty in one way or another.

Looks that way - assuming all the necessary plugs with the new PSU were securely connected the first time around.

Sure. Understand a computer draws what it needs, regardless if the PSU is a 450W, 650W, or a 1000W PSU.
