    Noahdfear,

When I put all those individually into the run box and click okay, each one says cannot open file...As for the previous ones, no messages came up except that they were successful...

I'm looking into other possible causes of the MMC being disabled. In the meantime, see if you have the System Idle Process.txt log, run ATF cleaner as described and reboot. Try those commands in safe mode too.

When back in normal mode, let me know if the commands worked in safe mode, post the log and let me know if you can access mail.yahoo.com yet.

    Noahdfear,
When I run those commands in the run box, in safe mode, under owner the same error messages come up...When I run them, in safe mode, under administrator the appropriate boxes for each one comes up...Nothing else.

I will try accessing yahoo mail in administrator since it does not work in owner and I will also do the ATF Cleaner plus System Process Idle...

The MMC requires Administrative privileges to run. If the Owner account is the only user account (other than Admin) then it suggests either some policy restrictions or a corrupted profile. Try creating a new user account with Administrative privileges and see if the msc commands work ....... and yahoo mail. If that works, you can either leave the new account for use or we can attempt to find policy restrictions on the Owner account.

    Noahdfear,
Created a new user acct using the owners name, since the other accts were owner and administrator...I got into the yahoo mail like no tomorrow but each and every time I went back to that, Internet Explorer and this forum, the computer would not let me despite several reboots...Things were freezing up on the screen as well...So I'm not so sure that we would be wrong in letting justice be served by sending this computer off to the Pope for some final blessings...

    re yahoo mail:
Verify that any yahoo domains are NOT in the IE Restricted Sites Zone, including any wildcards such as *.yahoo.com. If there then cookies will not be accepted thus won't be able to login to mail or any other yahoo sites that use yahoo cookies.

    Hi TonyT,
At some point on atleast one or two occasions that was checked...What I think we have here is the owner did some house cleaning due to unknown problems and even rolled back via system restore to day one and in the process yahoo mail went bye-bye's...I even questioned if someone else had worked on the computer prior to calling me because the owner has basic knowledge only (the answer was no ??? - only Comcast was called).

The other thorn that was in our sides was the CPU...It kept running at 100%. It was disinfected so much that we could feel comfortable ruling out spyware, etc...However, when AVG was installed the CPU ran at 100% with it and when uninstalled ran normally...So normal operations was hampered by this...

When an attempt was made to run defrag, an MMC error message came up, and Microsoft Works won't work and as I'm sure you have been following the bouncing ball when something appeared to have good results, another issue was around the corner...After approx 54 hrs invested in this computer I think the repair process is going to be lengthy and beyond challenging...I have not returned the computer and still open for options if there's something we have not tried...I also wanna thank you for your assistance...

At this point (actually, at a point long ago) I would backup the user's data, format & reinstall! It takes approx 4 hours to format, install XP, tweak settings & install all 3rd party apps & drivers. Remember, it is not "defeat" when the comp is returned & the owner has a smile on his face!

    TonyT,
I usually tell the owners, people like you are what we call "job security" and the smile is usually on my face...
