For the OS Drive (C:\): Healthy (including System, Boot, Page File, Active, Crash Dump and Primary Partition). It does not say System Partition, if that matters. All other drives, which are separte physical drives, say Primary Partition, as well.

A USB Windows 7 boot drive won't make any difference. Unfortunately if nothing else is working to get the system up and running then the only choice is to do a clean install of Windows 7 or update the system to Windows 10.

Have you had a look in Run > msconfig > Boot.
Check whether it's booting from your OS.
You may have more than one OS sitting there.;)
    Just a thought.

RL- msconfig states just the one OS, as says it is the both the Current and Default OS. Should Disk Management say that c: is the System Partition or does that not matter?

If necessary, is there a way to change the desigantion from Primary to System Partition?

Evan- If Windows 7 is not willing to do a Repair Install, would it allow a Windows 10 upgrade?

Wow, interesting, I think. I am not sure what it does. Does this actually do the upgrade??

Hope to ugrade this weekend. Two lingering questions. Will my 256Gb SSD be big enough for the upgrade? Creating an image seems like the way to go. Which imaging software to use that is easiest to create and to install in case of a calamity? Thanks!

    Can someone please comment?

256Gb SSD? Best way to take a full disk image and install in case of an upgrade disaster? Thanks. Windows has a system image option and that is a full disk image (with only one partition)? If Windows fails upon boot up, how do I introduce and install the image? I can store the image on a USB connected HDD. It will be about 170Gb (1:1).

I would prefer to use like with like when doing a backup/clone/image. Another SSD.
All the software I have used usually tells you if there is enough room to carry out the task.
Easus, Macrium Reflect, AOMEI, and a couple of others I can't bring to mind at the moment.
You may have to enter BIOS to enable USB as 1st Boot.

RL- Am I correct in assuming that in order for the Bios to show a USB hard drive option, that USB HDD has to be hooked up already? I also assume that I should empty that HDD so that the image is the only thing on it? Thanks!

Hi Larry, The option to make the USB 1st Boot should be in your BIOS and can be set with or without the USB plugged in.
Yes, it would be best to have the USB drive plugged in.
The Image/Clone needs enough room on the drive/storage to make the transfer.
If your 170GB drive has Data on it, Delete it if you don't require it any more.
Your Image/Clone can be named during the setup process.

Hi RL- I have looked at the BIOS' Boot Up menu numerous times and there is no USB anything on the list. I will be using at least a 250Gb (appx 235Gb usable) HDD for the 170Gb image.

I was cruising the BIOS functions and enabling Fast Boot allowed for the USB support to be upgraded from partial to full. Does that matter?? Is Fast Boot ok???

Oh, I contacted Gigabyte support about the lack of a USB boot up option. May be a few days before I hear from them. Not sure a Bios firmware update would accomplish much. With all the flashing warnings on their site, I figured to slow down the charge a little on that front. LOL

You should be good. I would perform an image backup using one of the many backup solutions that Retiredlearner posted above and then once you have done that, boot into Windows 7, plug in your Windows 10 flash drive and start the upgrade process.

Did you create a Windows 10 USB install drive?

No, I didn't yet. I cannot seem to find the link again to do that. I did download the Media Creation Tool on the Desktop and got that error upon running it. Don't I get the download through that? I first ran an MS app that preps Windows windows 7 for a Windows 10 upgrade. That got my WU going and it downloaded 156 updates. Now my wallpaper is gone and the background is black. One thing after another!! I tried clearing the Software Distributions/Downloads folder and the windows upate patch but nothing. There is a services line I can disable but I am hesitant to do that.

I appear to be lost. Actually.
