The folder for Silicon Image would be my bet for the card. (Actually, my IDE controller is Silicon Image). Look in that folder for a "readme" or other instructions.

Here is a manual for model similar to mine:
    http://www.sabrent.com/drivers/SBT-RDIT-4.pdf
You may be able to identify the model number from doing a websearch on the numbers on the chips of the card (one chip will probably be the RAID controller, another the IDE controller).

I would still not rule out that the BIOS settings may be reason.

I don't know if you mentioned it, try the card in different PCI slots (swap it with other cards if you have them).

Watch for changes in Device Manager between having the card inserted and not inserted. It might not appear under the listing you expect.

PS Interesting about CD drives not being supported on some controllers, something for me to make note of.

Thanks to all those that shared their thoughts and suggestions on my PCI IDE Card problem, it certainly helped keep me a little bit sane (saner than normal anyway).
Well I have fixed the problem (my way, sort of), I have taken my CD Burner and PCI IDE Card OUT.
I will live with the DVD burner only.
The "Card" is going to be returned as I have had more than enough headaches for the amount of trouble it was worth.
If I need another CD Rom of any kind I'll get a Sata Drive or something. Anything, and I mean ANYTHING rather than a @%*$^&# PCI IDE Card.

    Cheers to all,

Okayyyyyyyy. I have taken my IDE controller card and put it into this computer.

I looked at the chip on the card and it is a Silicon Image Sil 0680. I downloaded the drivers I need (32 bit Vista).

I will post back with how the installation goes.

Here are the instructions for Win XP:
Mine is not going as easy as is suggested.

PS I know you are sick of the sight of the silly card  Anyway, somebody else might get some worth from this.

    OH MY! What a drama!!!

I got the drivers from Silicon Image. Windows would not recognise them. I found the original drivers disk, nope (by the way, my drivers CD has what looks like the same folders as yours). I made a floppy disk like in the instructions, nope. I wondered if it might need OEM drivers, um, maybe. I followed a different path in the Add New Hardware wizard and finally agreed to let it "search online ". It found it was a Silicon Image ATA 133 controller, it was identified. Not out of the woods yet. I pointed it to the drivers again, nope. I went to Device Manager, under Silicon...ATA controller there was a yellow exclamation mark, right-click, select Properties. "there are not enough resources to run the hardware, code 12. Disable some other hardware". This motherboard only has one IDE controller, but two are listed under the "standard" IDE controller heading (IDE 0 and IDE 1), I disabled IDE 1. Still no drive.

Next boot I went through "update drivers" in Device Mangler and let it search online. No drivers found, would I like to go to Windows Update website? No, not really, but may as well. The driver was listed in the list of updates, downloaded and installed, still not running.

Finally, I took the card out of PCI slot 2 and put it into PCI 1. Windows reinstalled the drivers automatically and I now have my CD running on the controller card. Lucky Plug and Play does such a great job (ha ha).
