    paging file error, or not?

OK guys ready for another bash at it :)
have done all the suggestions you made, *.dmp files deleted in safe mode, also all temp files ETC,
my only problem now is when i go online ... fine
    when i check e-mail ... fine
when i browse the web ... fine
when i d/load in kazaa lite ... fine until machine re-boots?

so i did some elimination and did all the above web activities for several hours at a time, all is well until i start d/loadin in kazaa lite
(remember on of you suggested offloading kazaa as it has all the ad stuff in it) after 10mins or even an hour my machine reboots???

i ran my registry healer (d/loaded from... http://www.zoneutils.com/index.htm
and got rid of all invalid entries to no avail... when d/loading i get shut down???? have tried winmx but cant get on with it, although i admit i havent tried d/loading to see if my machine still shuts down.... any clues?

as ever eternally in your debt, and in awe of your knowledge.

    Jon :)

    Hello Lady Verdi

Yes I am ready! I always like to see the end!

Just yesterday I thought to send you a direct email to find out status!

Sounds like you have been busy! And you did well!

But you have now narrowed it down to one problem! That is good!

Let me ask about the downloading! Do you download several files then it locks up? Or are you downloading 1 huge file?

Does it usually take an hour for this to happen always? And per chance is it the same file every time?

AS A CONFIRMATION TEST: if it usually is 1 hour and is not one big file, you could go for about 45 minutes. Then terminate Kazaa and restart Kazaa and continue. This would give us another clue to consider!

In fact Verdi this may be a shortcoming of the Kazaa program itself by not having some buffer to be large enough or file size limit or even the number of files and/or their size's or a comb of all of these!

If terminating the program after 45 minutes and restarting the program again works then this may in fact be the case! If so this is what I would do and worry no more!

I truly feel that this is not a windows problem but is the program itself!

I feel that you may think that there is still something wrong with your Windows and want to be sure that it is corrected! I truly believe after all the repairing through the event logs. Cleaning updating that your OS is in tiptop!

If that were your concern then I would worry no more!

For now I would uninstall WinMx!

If you want you may try the programs below to additionally clean both temp files and the registry! hese are tools everyone should have to be ready for trouble!

The temp files these programs find are not all in the temp folders but other known useless temps! Each of these programs have a registry backup so when you use the "registry cleaning features" of these programs it is best do so immediately after a reboot and immediately reboot after a reg clean. And do them one at a time!

To clarify you need only to reboot after a reg clean. Not necessary if only cleaning temps!
I have used all of these programs for years on 95/98/me/2000 and XP except RegScrubXP this one only for a few months!

    EasyCleaner 1.7
    http://gswi.com/downloads.htm

Simple to use and straight forward I usually disable the funky screen but is a very good tool!

    RegCleaner
http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/shtml/regcleaner.shtml pick the one with installer, when you install this unselect language support!

This program is a very good Reg cleaner but has many features; it shows and controls startup programs etc! Its 1st screen lists all registry entries to installed programs. Here you should look carefully for entries that you know you should not have, like uninstalled programs etc. If unsure at all do not check them! After manually selecting and removing known bad entries, go then to tools-registry cleanup-do them all!

In RegCleaner there is a very unique and powerful feature called "Reset Hardware Configurationâ€, DO NOT USE THIS!

One thing I recommend in any of these programs is to stay away from cleaning duplicate files because it is hard to determine the correct system file to keep and some programs need the dup to work!

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/article.php?sid=2048

Newest Reg Cleaner and written only for Win2k and XP! I like it! Select "RegScrub finds problemsâ€!

    And finally! http://download.com.com/3001-2094-10127482.html

    System Mechanic! I love it!

I use these one at time when I feel they are needed at some unusual problem or after uninstalling something!

Every 90 days or so I run these all 1 after another and then rerun the registry cleaners until they all come up clean (no new entries)!

Then Adaware and Spybot then Virus and Trojan/worm scan and finally a defrag!

    At your service,
    Mike

    Well Hello Verdi

Remember Verdi the additional cleanups (the downloads) I gave are for ICEING ON THE CAKE!

They will help everything in general but you don't have to do them! And are tools for future problems!

Probably will not help the download problem in Kazaa because I believe that to be the Kazaa program itself!

Glad you finally got it all sorted. XP is certainly much more finicky about drivers than any other OS I've ever used----for good or bad, I'm not sure.

    Happy computing, verdi !
