Every time I boot windows I always get the paging file message. I have tried to make windows set the size by checking the automatic choice. But it never does anything. I am at a loss as to how I can stop this message.

    Paging file

Steve, here is the message that appears when I boot up.
"Windows created a temporary paging file on you computer because of a problem that occurred with your paging file configuration when you started your computer. The total paging file size for all disk drives may be somewhat larger than the size you specified. "

I set it automatic every time but it does not seem to help the problem.

Double check your settings. If you have more then one drive or partition make sure they are set to NOT have a page file.

Also check Error Message: Your System Has No Paging File, or the Paging File Is Too Small

I set the numbers for my paging file for the drives listed. Now I no longer get the error message but it erased all my figures I had assigned. All the drives indicate 0.

I put in some mb numbers for each drive that was listed, ie C;,D:, & G:. when I booted up the error message was gone but window showing the paging file allotments for each drive was 0. The values I assigned each drive were erased.

You ONLY need a page file set to the C drive.

I set the C drive and did nothing to the others. I still get the paging file message and the window showing the allocation lists the value I set for the c drive. Nothing seems to get rid of the initial message.

Is this a clean install or upgrade? If it was me I'd choose to backup my data, reformat & clean install.

Arie, it was a clean install of Windows 7. Do you mean I should format the C: drive and erase everything? I am a senior citizen and I really get scared about drastic measures. If it means losing everything I have on the drive I think I would prefer to live with the error message. At least I can close it out each time I re-boot

    Hello paul4golf,

    This is worth a shot:
    http://social.answers.microsoft.com...e/thread/992de6a8-bec2-4e74-b6d9-d418a7f5cda0

    Also explained again here:
    http://forums.techarena.in/operating-systems/1278031.htm

What is it? I found two possibilities, so far:
Apparently an "Audio File Service ":
    http://www.chrisvanwyk.co.za/index.php/software/windows-7
or a driver that was installed with a program such as "Borderbund something or other [forget] ", which allowed or was used for cd burning from within the program, [if not this specific program perhaps something similar.] I imagine an update or a win7 compatibility check was needed for this program.

Here's the whole google list on the topic:
    http://www.google.com/search?q=sc+c...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Seems to be harmless to try this. While I haven't found the default needed to reverse this. I'm sure, should the need arise, it can be done fairly easily.

    Hello again,

Yeah!!!! I'm so happy to have helped. Your most welcome and thank you for the update. Does this mean you can now set pagefile options and the settings stick even on a reboot? :)

Can you please mark this as resolved?

    I'm sorry paul4golf,

I never really clicked on my own "resolved link" to see were it leads. I think this one will help:
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/faq.php?faq=vb3_board_faq
scroll down just a bit, in the link above, to find topic and how-to on "mark this topic resolved ".

As to how to set or reset the memory:
    >startbutton>search line>type sysdm.cpl

Or right click "my computer" icon and select "advanced system properties "

Or get to control panel and click on "system icon "

    >Click the advanced tab
    >click the Performance settings button
    >click the advanced tab
    >in the Virtual memory category click the change button
    >I have mine set to allow "system management ".

You can do as you will here. since this is user preference, but... remember to always press the set than apply button and a reboot may required.
NOTE* most important to press the set button.

    -----------
I confess to being a little confused since you started this post saying you had tried to set/reset this, previously, and on a reboot it wouldn't stick, and that you did this not once but numerous times

    Hi Paul,
Thanks for marking post but, as much as I hate to keep bugging you about this, do "virtual memory settings" stick on a reboot?

Not having the "windows memory nag" was only part of the problem the other has yet to be clarified. Looks like "windows nag" has been replaced by "Ann nag ". :D
