Yes, I think it is working now with Google Chrome as the default browser!!! Now, why did that work? Does Google Chrome do something to the registry, or was the problem before something to do with my Explorer 8? Normally when I get email notification from this website, I had to cut and paste, but just now, it took me here when I clicked on it. Now I'm curious to see if my links will still open if I switch back to explorer 8 for the web browser?????

Just a quick little update, I switched my brower back to Explorer 8 as the default, and the links are still working so far! Why did that work? <big happy smile>

The reason is some of the keys in the registry were incorrect.

If you uninstall Chrome I should imagine it will revert back to having the problem as before.

Are you happy leaving Chrome installed or would you like me to try and run through repairing the registry with you so you can uninstall chrome.

    Tom

Well, I'm not going to use Chrome, I really prefer to use Explorer and have already set it back as my default. Is there any downside to just leaving Chrome on my computer and ignoring it? If it is better to get rid of it and fix the registery keys, I would be happy to do that if you feel it's worth your time and energy. I don't like the idea that something is wrong in the registery. So if you are up for it, I think I am too....of course I'm saying that going in blind and not fully understanding what this might entail! <g> BTW, I can't thank you enough for the help you have already given. Everyone who has helped with this problem THANK YOU! You are a wonderful group of volunteers! Sincerely!

It doesn't really matter about leaving Chrome on the machine. But we can have a go to see if we can remove it and get it working properly.

Right if you uninstall Chrome first as you have set Internet Explorer as your default browser.

See if after you remove it whether it works as you want it to.

If not below are the parts of the registry that need editing.

    1. Click Start Menu, click Run, type Regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

    2. Locate the following subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html

    5. Right click the (Default) value for the .html key and select Modify...

    6. Change the value from "ChromeHTML" to "htmlfile "

Repeat steps for .htm and .shtml keys.

Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Let me know how you get on.

I am going out for a meal later so if I don't reply tonight I will tomorrow.

    Tom

You are so amazing! It is fixed and appears to be working!!! THANK YOU! I uninstalled Google Chrome and you were right, the Links in Outlook stopped working. I did the registery edit as you suggested above, rebooted the computer and tried it out and it works!!!

Hope you have a wonderful meal out knowing you have helped a stranger this morning! You rock! <happy happy smile> I'm quite excited that we actually got this working as I was starting to lose all hope.

Now, I think I'm supposed to put "resolved" in the subject line, but I can't see where to do that...
