    Greetings;

    I put a tech-support email case in to Microsoft for this, but they haven't responded yet in 48 hrs, so I thought I'd see if I can get assistance thru this avenue.

    Office2003 SP3
    WindowsXP SP3

    In running OfficeUpdate, I receive an error, when the status bar comes up, during the detection-phase:
    _____________________________________________________
    Windows Installer patch files (.MSP files) from previously applied Office updates are missing from the /Windwos/Installer hidden directory on your computer. MSP files are stored on your computer after an update installation completes because they need to be referenced for future udpate operations. if the files are missing, you will not be able to apply Office updates. You may not be able to un-install office as well. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for assistance...

    I think I do remember getting rid of these files, but now I need to know how to reverse the effects. --Do I need to re-install Office from CD, or is there another way to let my Office installation receive the OfficeUpdate updates via the web..?

    I think it depends on how long ago you deleted the files and whether or not you sent them to the Recycle Bin and if a System Restore Point was created before you emptied the Recycle Bin.

    You could do a System restore back to a date prior to deleting the files and that may work. I am not sure if re-installing it will work - have you tried calling support services (if free support is still available for Office 2003)?
