    Hello

Thank you BillyBob; indeed it's about VIA chipsets. I assumed (I don't know even why)you having a MoBo with VIA chipset.
If you have ,here is the page you need.
    regards

    Stefan

    best5,

Yes I installed the DirectX 8.1 first before anything else.

I did exactly as the Video card directions said. apparently since I already had Monitor drivers installed, following their directions explicitly did not work like it was supposed to.

After a couple of attmepts, BillyBob told me about the motherboard drivers, which I was not aware that they had to be installed everytime you installed Windows & on each OS. After that I uninstalled all the video stuff again & installed the MoBo drivers, making sure I installed the ones for my MoBo, since the CD had drivers for every MoBo Tyan made at the time I got my PC. Then I re-installed the Video card. Got the same result as before.

"Only after" I decided that my Monitor drivers & the NVidia drivers were in conflict was the problem fixed by completely removing the Monitor drivers, uninstalling nVidia again, removing it's leftovers, & forcing windows to set my Monitor as a standard VGA plug & play, then re-installing the nVidia once again.

Finally It was right, and seems to be working fine now. Sure hope it stays that way.:)

As for the VIA chipsets. As far as I can tell by having looked it up before, my MoBo has the latest version of chipsets that are for my particular MoBo, so that should not have been, and does not seem to be a problem.

And yes BillyBob, since installing the MoBo drivers I can detect a difference in some other things as you mentioned that I would.:)

I am glad Directx has been mentioned.

If you should happen to do a DX Diagnostics and it says that your Nvidia drivers are not certified Do not worry about it

If everything is working PLEASE ( for your sanity ) leave things as they are. I battled that ONCE and will not again.

I myself have DX Diag showing both Video and Audio not certified.

    Thanks BillyBob.

My sanity is intact :) & I plan to keep it that way, although I almost lost it a time or two during this particular battle. :)

I figure that as long as everything is working, DON'T mess with it. Windows lies a lot you know.:D

I try not to go looking for trouble. LOL It always seems to find me anyway when it takes a notion to.:)

If I'd known ahead of time what kind of trouble that new card was going to be, I probably would never have tackled it. :) However, I learned some new, very important lessons.:)

I wonder if everyone else that bought a GForce4 440 had this kind of problem?

Different card but may be same basic problem

    I will agree with that.

Just wish that I had practiced it a few times. It weren't broke til I fixed it. Then it became broke.

Read the thread. Sounded a whole lot familiar. :)

    :D Same here!

Like one of the other guys on here has in his signature, "If it's broke fix it. If it ain't broke fix it anyway, & make it worse." Something to that effect anyway. :D

All I wanted was a card that would run a more intensive Graphics program that I've acquired. Boy, did I get a week long headache along with it. :D

    Shaman36,

Everything's been working just fine for a couple of days now, so I am not messing with it. :D If it starts acting up again, I will remember your suggestion, but for now, I think I will just let it be, and sing a happy song while I can. :)

    Thanks for posting though.
