See if you can install the Windows Installer 4.5

I believe the file you need is named WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe

If successful, restart the machine when prompted, then run the WIVer.htm again and post.

Sorry about the delay - had some ISP problems.

Please try to install SubInACL again. I noticed in your log that you had downloaded it back in Dec. Please download a fresh copy if you had not already done so when I suggested it above.

Thanks for everything you're doing for me. I hope I don't seem too much like a newbie.
I downloaded SubinAcl file and did what you told me. (I do not remember downloading it back in Dec. but oh well)
Rebooted computer and went to Microsoft's website and downloaded service pack 3 and it succeeded this time.
I allowed my automatic updates to FINALLY update my computer. It took 2 times but now that shield isn't on the task bar at the bottom.
Now, I don't know if all the stuff I just did was the cause of this or not, but now anytime i use a media player (Windows, Quicktime, etc...). It jerks and paused badly.

On a side note, I didn't know how to disable Search and Destroy Tea timer so i just deleted it for now.

I successfully installed service pack 3 and whatever Microsoft updates I had to get.
Window installer works now as well.

From the first post I would say that the following issues still remain.

My windows defrag, as well as my check for errors tool do not work. When I check for errors it states "disc check could not be performed because the disc check utility needs exclusive access to some Window files on the disk ".
If i try to defrag another error comes up.

When I reboot, it takes FOREVER to load everything. My activity light goes crazy for about 15-20 minutes.

And since I installed service pack 3 and the other updates, 2 things have come up. First, any media player that i use to play clips, or movies, or whatever, either streaming from a website or from a file on my computer, plays like it is jerking or pausing. I don't know if that makes any sense.
Second, 75 % of websites i go to now take forever to load. The page will actually freeze for a minute. The hourglass icon will appear instead of the mouse cursor and the words (not responding) will appear at the top of the screen next to the Microsoft Internet Explorer. After about a minute, everything goes back to normal.

Hope my descriptions are worded well enough for you.
    Thanks.

    Hi moviebuff2

noahdfear will be gone for a few days, and asked me to help cover for him until his return. or you can wait for him.

    It is your choice.

Please go here and install these two items.

    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Number 82 on the left side Enable Check Disk Upon Boot
Number 280 on the left side Restore Defrag.Exe

Uninstall and reinstall which ever media players are having the problems, sounds like SP3 may have damaged them.

Reboot your computer and try them again.

    Thanks Geri! :)

I would also suggest you check for driver updates to your video, sound and LAN devices, at the manufactures website.

Sorry Geri for not replying back to you sooner. Outta town.
I did everything you said. Now my defrag works and my disc scan works as well :). NOW, when I restart my computer, I have two windows that pop up.
The first is a "system configuration utility" window. It states that "you have used the system configuration utility to make changes to the way window starts............and that it is currently in diagnostic or selective start up mode." When i hit ok it then states "an access denied error was returned while attempting to change service. You may need to logon using an administrator account to make the specified changes "
The second window is a "windows file protection" that apparently scans my computer. This is fine but it takes about 30+ minutes.
Both of these windows did not pop up before.
