I don't know whether this is a question or a pet peeve. I get "not responding" messages all of the time from many websites and programs. It this a problem I have or is it universal? Windows 7, IE or my computer? Sometimes these issues resolve themselves and sometimes I have to close the program and start over.

How are you connecting to the internet? Cable modem DSL, through a router. When you receive a not responding message do you look to see if you are still connected to the internet. Sometimes I get that message. I unplug my router wait 30 seconds and plug in the router. That resets the router. If you are connecting via a Modem turn off the computer and unplug the modem for 30secs to 1min plug it in .This reset the modem. There are times when I have to shut down the computer, unplug both router and the modem. If you have to unplug both plug in the modem first wait for it to finish resetting then plug in the router wait until that resets, then reboot the computer.

Cable modem (Comcast). I recently defragged and cleared temp files but that resulted in virtually no improvement. I've reset the modem but that doesn't help either. Am I being too picky?

Type in the Start search box %temp% and delete those files to.

Have you opened Task Manager to see what is not Responding?
Do you get an error code when this occurs? Neil.

I tried deleting the %temp% files. I'll see if that helps. Thanks,
I don't get an error code when I open the task manager. I do have about 100 processes running. Is this significant?

Non-responding programs do show on the Task Manager. My real question is "is it normal to get so many?" If not, how do I fix it? Thanks for the help.

It is NOT normal to see programs not responding - maybe very occasionally when closing the non responding program and reopening it generally resolves the issue.

Do you see the same problem in Safe Mode?

    Hi Pete,
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but I was out of town. I tried safe mode bur couldn't get online so I couldn't see if my "not-responding" browsers were still not responding.

I think that my frustration is that the computer is really slow and seems slower since various programs keep giving me "Not responding" messages. They will say "not responding" for a minute or so and then respond.

I should have said Safe Mode with Networking - you should then get online OK.

I suggest you check out your hard drive ......

Right click the drive in Windows Explorer > Properties > Tools - check and defrag.
No - I currently have 100 processes running.

Please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions!

I think you may have entered your System Details but forgot to scroll down and SAVE before closing. Neil.
