You don't need to have Ghost installed on the system to create and/or restore an Image. You only need the proper Ghost Boot Disks for imaging over a network and then work from the GBDs.

The catch is that You need to install Ghost to create the GBDs but You can uninstall it afterwards.

I've never created or restored an Image over a network but if You use the Ghost Boot Wizard to create a Peer-to-Peer Network Boot Disk, then it should work.

May I suggest a visit to Radified where You'll find the best Ghost Guide on the web and a Forum with people who have "been there ".

My understanding (and experience) is that Ghost 2003 won't work with, or Ghost a server OS like W2K or W2k3 server. Ghost corporate is needed for a server ghosting or ghosting from within the server OS. Ghosting a server partition from within XP still won't work, and vice versa.

He does not want to ghost the serevr, he wants to ghost his workstation and save the IMG or GHO file to the server drive.

Norton Ghost 2003 can be used to create the ghost boot disks needed to ghost the workstation. Two floppy duisks will be needed in order to have networking supported. TCP protocol with NETBIOS bound to it MUST be used for the network ghosting process.

I suggest the easy alernative of making a regular ONE ghost boot disk and saving it to another partition on the workstation, or if your CD burner is supported by Ghost, save the IMG there directly. Once burned to a CDR or another partition, the IMG can be transferred to the server.
