Hi Cbuck - got your name right this time :)

I notice that you have a lot of "stuff" running and I would start narrowing the problem down.

For starters, I would disable the two tool bars you have running: MSN and Google, they both add BHO's to IE.

Go into IE's tools > Manage Add-Ons and disable the BHO's - one at a time, you can always enable them again.

You also have SpyBot's resident stuff running and MS AS real time protection running. So experiment with shutting them down and see if they're conflicting.

EDIT: I just noticed Zander's post and that I repeated his advice. Apologies to Zander

    Regards - Charles

Newt...I made the Drive change in the Reg and ran the SFC little while ago. Took it awhile but it did complete the scan. It was just in and out, no note telling me I needed a new PC or anything. Thanks!

Charles/Zander... Thanks guys. OK...I "took a look" and for sure, it is quite lengthy. Charles, there was a difference in your post and Zander's... :) I believe he wants me to use a depth charge and blow them all to zmitterenes and re-add, one by one. Your post said, be a little "kinder" and remove them one by one...looking for a culprit. I will go through the process, maybe flip a coin, and see if one of these guys are at fault. Thanks... will post results 9/10.

I'd use the depth charge. :D There's likely to be a bunch of them. Disabling them all will tell you fairly quickly whether or not there's a problem with one of them. Disabling them one at a time however could take quite a while to do.

I see nothing in the hijackthis log.
Since your sfc finished, go to belarc.com , click on downloads and get the free belarc advisor.
Run it and see if (at the bottom of the report) it says there are any problems with any of your windows updates. If so , go and follow the provided link to get the manual installer to reinstall them.

Zanders...I used the claymore mine blowed them skyhigh. Thought I was home free. All are disabled now. I connected with ISP, clicked the browser, and window appeared in about 10 seconds. I closed again, disconnected with ISP, reconnected and hit the browser icon. 2 seconds and browser appeared. Several times this happened. Rebooted machine, c/w ISP, then hit browser...five minutes later, it shows up. During the connect time and awaiting browser, I noted ISP dual-monitor icons were lit up though nothing huge. Course I wasn't doing anything. Sent: 69,528 bytes. Rec'd: 54,212 bytes. It shows up again in about 5 minutes. I've been through several closes and reconnects having to wait up to five minutes. Then on several occasions, everything freezes and I have to manually shutdown and reboot but in all cases, I've been online before these freeze situations develop.

Oshwyn, I have Belarc on here and just ran it for update. It only had a RED X at one item... KB840987, MS04-032: Security Update for MS Windows. An XP2 item and don't believe it could be the problem. I will d/l it again and see if it takes hold. Thanks guys!

:D Howdy. For everyone's info, today with all those IE BHO's still deactivated, everytime I have clicked on the IE icon to open the browser, it is there. I mean it is normal at the moment...click on it and it opens. whew-eeeeeeeeee. By this evening, it may be a different story...will wait and see. So to Charles and Zanders...I will run this thing for a week with all of it disabled and see if it still works normal. Then I will begin enabling one at a time until the rascal appears but most of them will stay disabled. Each of you can have at least two ATTABOYS. Thanks again.

Ok, hope you find the problem.

When you start enabling them again you might try half of them to begin with. If the stall occurs then, disable half of those you enabled. If the stall doesn't occur, enable half of those that are still disabled and so on. You can do it one at a time but doing it this way will narrow it down to the problem one a bit faster.

However you do it, let us know what you find in the end.

    Howdy,

As to the SLOWWWWWW IE browser opening that I had been going through for a long time, I just wanted to let you all know that apparently it is now fixed. Somewhere within the "Manage-Add ons" lies the culprit. I have them all still turned off since Zanders and Charles brought that up and I checked it out. Now connecting with ISP and then clicking browser, it opens (every time) within a nanosecond...or fairly fast. So for sure, those add-0ns had got my machine completely out of kilter. Many, many thanks! :D

    Hi Cbuck,

Thanks for the post back, glad it was a happy ending :)

If you ever find out which one or maybe a combo, let us know. I suspect that the origins of a lot of IE problems start here.

    Regards - Charles
