    Mike,
    from here:
    http://www.hitachigst.com/downloads/dft_userguide.pdf

Start the computer with the DFT boot floppy in the floppy drive.
Run the quick tests first, then the longer ones, these will take a while.

Thanks Matt. I wasn't even thinking about the DFT disk. I'll give it shot and let you know what I find.

I put the DFT disk in and put the hard drive on the secondary channel. All other drives were disconnected. I started the system and it would not go anywhere. I get the IBM screen, where I can choose to go into BIOS or startup menu, and it just stays there. My floppy drive is listed as the first startup drive, so I would have thought that the disk would have started up. Any other thoughts? thanks.

Update -- I have tried using KillDisk with no luck. It wasn't the software, the disk stopped again. I have to assume at this point that it is the hard drive that is the problem. I will have to find myself a new drive and see how things work. It looks like that may be the only way to narrow the problem down. I'll keep updating as I proceed.

Okay, I received my new drive and have installed it. I loaded Win98 and everything seems to be working good. No freezes or problems. I guess I had a bad drive. Thanks for all the suggestions and help. I appreciate it!
