    Mr B,

I somehow ended up with the Nvidia Nv Mixer instead but had already downloaded the Unified driver earlier yesterday.

I rechecked everything. Everything appears to be correct. I did find one difference with the keyboard that may or may not make a difference. You'll have to tell me.

In Control Panel>Keyboard>Hardware. The keyboard is listed as " HP PS2 keyboard(2k-3) "

In Control Panel>Display>Settings. Display has the monitor listed as " HP vf flat panel monitor on Nvidia GeForce4 mx intergrated gpu "

The HP vf flat panel monitor is correct. That is what is listed on the monitor itself. Each have a different driver listed.

Also the GeForce4 is questionable. In Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices everything is listed as " Nvidia(R) nForce(TM) Audio. No numbers anywhere.

I don't know if it makes any difference or not, thought I'd mention it though. Also the only spare speakers I have are the ones that came with the computer purchased in 98. I'll try them. If they don't work I'll borrow some. Thanks.

    Update

I hooked the OEM computer back up. No audio there either. Put main computer back and replaced keyboard, mouse, and speakers. Still no audio. I'm stumped.

    Hi there

I take it that it is onboard sound?

If it is perhaps your bios settings have changed that have turned off the sound, if not try below.

Try deleting all mentions of the soundcard from the system control panel hardware including the joystick "This is the important one" now when windows restarts it should ask for these drivers again, use only the original drivers that came with the motherboard etc... make windows use these drivers and no others, restart and let me know the result.

Another thing, have you tried a pair of headphones in the card speaker port?

Might be the speakers have just failed?

    Hope this helps

Sadly SP2 is not the best update in the world, still there might be a patch on the soundcard website for it.

    Regards

A short while back I had trouble installing and unstalling sp2. I had to use my oem computer to ask for help here. In doing so all I did was unplug everything in the back of this one to the other. Couldn't have both hooked up at the same time due to only having one monitor, mouse, and keyboard. So I started talking to myself and wondered if maybe I had jarred the sound card loose somehow. I opened the cover and discovered that the only way to jar the thing loose was to slam the computer down very hard. That I didn't do. But looking at where the speakers were plugged in I noticed it didn't look right, it didn't look like it was in the right plug. So I moved it. Now I have sound. I was so involved in thinking I had a driver problem that all else was blocked from my mind.

Mr B - I remember you asking me to check to make sure everything was plugged in right. I did. I just didn't check to see if it was plugged in the right spot. I assumed it was. Sorry for taking up so much of your time.

tel33 - Fortunately I don't have to try your suggestion but I am going to copy and paste it for future reference. Thanks. I did check the bios settings prior to or just after I started this post tho.

It wasn't a simple hardware problem, it was a dumb user problem. :)

    dopey,

Not a problem at all!! I spend hours on those "5 minute fixes" more often than I care to admit.
    Glad it was something minor.
