Well it went through this time.Going to leave it alone....but this time it didn't ask for product key and there still seems to be some things missing.Still no games...on display properties there is no clouds for background.Just minor problems but can I browse the cd and add these in? Or take them off another cd?

Good that it's going again. You may be offered the games when you visit Windows Update, which needs to be done. You can also get the games from Windows Update Catalog. While at WU, click 'Personalize' under other option on the left side then check to show catalog on next screen and save. Click the new windows catalog link on the left again, updates for OS, 98 from drop down, advanced options, put in game and check additional windows downloads. (sorry for the detail if you're already familiar with this)

    OK a couple of things.

No it does not say to remove the CD.

Yes it does look for the CD after removing the Floppy ( I watched the lights ). But I have never had to actually remove the CD.

But I do not have a bootable CD so that could be the difference.

But I could also be thinking ( remembering ) wrong as it has been a LLLOOONNGGG time since I installed/re-installed Windows from the CD As I have the setup files the HD.

You can add the games by opening add>remove programs and clicking on the windows setup tab. Put a checkmark next to game and click ok or apply or whatever it is. Sorry, I'm not at a 98 puter right now. If memory serves me correctly, the games aren't installed by default. I believe in order to install the games during the windows installation you need to select the custom install and select them manually.

    Thank you Zander

That seems to be the way I recall it too.

The problem with a Windows install/re-install is that just one different keystroke or a diffferent check mark here or there can result in an entirely different outcome.

One keystroke or checkmark can make or break things.

Everytime I do a repair install I have to sit back and think " Well what did I do last time ? " And if I ever got it right it would be nothing less than a Miricale.

Zander is correct about getting the games that way also. You have to highlight accessories in the list of components and click details to see the games option.(just figured it would be as easy to get it from WU and also ensure you DO go there and get updates)

You're not the only one BB! Don't think I've ever done it the same twice. :)

Thanks everyone for helping me,especially BB and Mark.I hope I didn't sound ungrateful in any of my posts because quite the opposite is true.I just try to put in as much info as possible for both the people that are helping me and those who are just reading posts to gain knowledge, something that I often do.

Noah...believe me I appreciate all the details!:) Thanks. Once I get this pc connected to my network I will be going straight to Windows update.

No problem. And you are welcome. We are just glad to know that it working again.

A while back I was doing an overtop re-install. All went very well until I said NO to making a Start up Disk ( which I had done many times before ). I all ready had three I did not need another. So I started over and made the disk and all was well. You figure it out I can't

Now I gotta get this posted and try to figure out why my pointer is not behaving. I will take one wild guess ( and wait for many agreements ) . The machine has been setting here too long with a ScreenSaver running. And I know from the past that the one that is running has done it.

I am definitely glad to hear it is going. If you want the clouds background back on the desktop, just right click on the desktop and select Properties. You are wanting to change the Wallpaper, the Display Properties should open right where you need to go, the Background tab.
P.S. Leave Active Desktop disabled, it just uses up your system resources.
