Well, I'm not sure what to make of that. You shouldn't see anything trying to connect when you open you're browser. It should just open and go to your homepage.

Is it trying to make a dialup connection by any chance? Try this. Open Internet Explorer and click tools>internet options>connections and make sure that it's set to either dial whenever a network connection is not present or never dial a connection. If it was set to always dial my default connection, close and reopen IE after changing it.

The fact that you had to skip a file during the installation of the card has me wondering if there's still a problem with the install though.

Open a command prompt and at the prompt type the following and then press enter.
    Code:
    ping www.windowsbbs.com
Do you get an answer back or does it timeout after each connection attempt?

If it times out, try typing the following and see what happens.
    Code:
    ping 67.15.19.177

It should work. Did you put a space between ping and www? There needs to be one there. The bad command or file name is saying you don't have ping.exe which all versions of windows have. You would receive that error though if you didn't include the space.

Yes, try the second command too if the first one times out but remember to leave a space after the word ping.

FWIW, ping.exe is a file that should be located in your windows folder.

If you can't connect with ping I guess I would try downloading drivers for the card (that skipped file still has me wondering).

If you want to try it, you can get them at the link below. There's a small paragraph there that tells you what to do with the file you downloaded. If, during or after the installation you're prompted for the location of your windows files, put the windows cd in the drive, browse to the win98 folder on it, click on it once to select it and then click ok.

You need to include the word ping then a space and then windows bbs address just as you'd type it in your web browser. Same with the one with the numbers. Like this.
    Code:
    ping www.windowsbbs.com
You can copy and paste it from here if you want although my guess is it isn't going to connect.
How about the PC you're using now? If it has a cd burner you can download the file and burn it to cd and then use the cd to install them.

Otherwise, it's only 1.58 MBs so an alternative would be to download the file and use a file splitting program like Chainsaw (it's free) to split the file so it fits on two floppy disks. You could then take the floppies to the other computer and put it back together again on that computer, then run the file.

If you use Chainsaw there's no need to have it installed on the computer you want to move the file to. It creates a batch file which you'll find on one of the floppies. Just make a folder on the other computer, and copy all of the files from the two floppies to it. Then go to that folder and double click on the batch file and it'll put it back together again. ;)

Well, apparently you don't have a connection then. I think it would be best to try installing the drivers from their website first. If after that you still don't have a connection how about the CD that Verizon supplied? Did you ever get it to install? I read your first post again and it's not really clear if it installed or not. You might try installing that again when you know the card is installed correctly. That CD would have all the necessary network settings for you to be able to connect. If it's not installed right you won't have a connection. You can set things up manually but you need to know certain things and you'd probably have to talk to them to get things setup right.

So, unless anybody else has a better idea I'd try the drivers from there website and then run the install on the CD that you got from Verizon again. If that doesn't work it might be best to give them a call and see if they can help you out.

No, that doesn't mean I'm giving up on it. It's just that I suspect that would be the quickest way to get you up and running. :)
