Dale, if you want a mobo with decent built-in sound, look for one that states it has the C-Media chip (I think that's what it's called). It's supposed to be of superior quality than the "AC97" built-in sound. I remember seeing it on an Iwill board - not that I'm recommending their boards. On every modern mobo I've played with, the built-in sound can be easily disabled in the bios. It's one of the first things I do when I boot up a new machine. Good luck!

The O/S feature to enable/disable in the bios would be software and routines affected subsequently after that is software. For instance, audio is integrated into the modem with built-in sound.

It seems to me hardware and proprietary builds may have line connectors that prevent a change (maybe). But I have taken notice that a high end (price) computer from the same manufacturer has a card in the same mobo and chassis as the midrange computer with built-in sound. The midrange can be customized by the manufacturer and (upgraded ?) to a sound card. This indicates to me there may be choices with the newer mobos barring a form factor.

    Hello To All,
I have just one question concerning the smoke issue. Once the smoke is let out, how do you get it back in :)?
