There have been other threads on the window resizing bug. This is the most recent: Sizing NS7 Screens

    My advice is to:

Click on Help | Feedback Center

Register your suggestions there, and do it frequently. If we, as users, don't voice our opinion nothing will ever be changed.

I've had view problems with N7, 7 Preview, w95, XP, different systems, monitors, including 2x video cards, along with 4 different graphic drivers. On my "Mail and Newsgroup" screen view in preferences below the "Location" input field is a "one botton field ". I Don't know WHAT it is, since it displays only the top one fifth of the key button. Below that field are "Ok, Cancel, Help" buttons, which display perfectly. These types of display problems appear to be "field Edit" errors. Something the end user has little control over.

    An Idea of what shows

    WOW It even works.

I was just messing around and found that the Cookie Manager Window will resize by grabbing the edges with the Mouse.

    Hi BillyBob,

I had that very same problem with SkyPilot. I believe you said, however, that you had the same problem with all Themes, right?

There are several windows that can be resized, including Bookmarks. That tiny little window always puts me off!

    Hi BillyBob

Hey your lucky. I used to have a "Helper Screen" that looks like your "screen#2 ".
About 2 months ago I added a helper to manage Acrobat files. I don't know if I pushed field exit during input or what happened. But now when I highlight the "Acrobat Helper phrase" the display field expands and pushes the 3 bottons on the right side of the info screen totally off the screen view. Go figure.

In answer to your question Ramona I show the same results in all Themes.

And in more than one Resolution and/or color setting.

I really think that it is a programming error that only the makers can fix.

I have also been checking around and find that all Windows except the Preference Window ( so far ) are resizeable.

I tend to agree that this is hard coded in the program. I know there is a bug report, but I haven't found it yet... well, I haven't really looked too hard today. ;)

    BillyBob et.al.

    Thanks for the pics.

I have been able to replicate some of the problems/situations by dinking around in the "localstore.rdf" file. (with much trepidation I maight add). I use the standard "Modern Theme" - default colors etc. All prowling around has been done in a "virgin" profile. Even when set to oddball views, I have been able to expand the view by dragging the edges around and they seem to hold when I exit NS. I am thinking more and more that it has something to do with the "themes "

    Anyway, will keep on looking.

    regards: captjldd

Thanks for posting those pics. Billybob and I have about the same size window and I've never seen the full one posted by Ramona. I'm saving it as a wallpaper reminder to contact Netscape.

    Ramona,

    HI :D

Thanks for the screen shots, That's what I have except for the one of the WBB corner. Awhile back I had that problem, it would clear up if I "moused over" but haven't had it lately.

Very Strange, Think it had something to do with the Java version or something.

Anyway, are we having fun yet............

To all, keep it up as it keeps the older folks (like me) busy

    Best regards:

    Hi captjlddavis,

The skewed icon screen shot was actually for another thread, but a good example of Netscape problems. I was told that the cache file has been damaged, and the method to fix it is Context Click | View Image | reload | back. Interesting, as I delete my Cache folder at the end of each online Session, but who knows. I'm certainly going to try the workaround the next time it happens.

Yes, we are definitely having fun! :D It keeps all us "mature" individuals on our toes! ;)

    Greeting to all, :D

Still cranking away on this one. I had problem with the size of the "Download Progress Window" Don't know if this was a new one or I just didnt notice before:

    Symptom:

Right side of window cut off right edge of right button.

Could not resize (drag) with mouse.

    Possible solution:

    Close NS
    Open "localstore.rdf" with text editor.
Search and found "download" and "width = 600 "
    Edit "width = 600" to read "width = 800 "

    Save File

    Start NS 7.01 (compact)

    Navigated to "Download Progress" box.

Now display shows full box. (actually a little extra maybe)

So I guess that this may work. But a real pain locating the right Entry.

    Regards and good luck

WOW! I am totally impressed with your perseverance! Really good going there Capt.D, and before we know it you'll be giving us a CCK Version of your own. Hey, that might be kind of catchy: Capt.D's Netscape Navigator.

Just joshin' ya' a little... ;)

Excellent work. I tried a download today and the box that asks whether to save or open (with Realplayer in my case) was cut off at the bottom so there was no "OK" button. I remembered Ramona's tip about hitting "Enter" in that case, but I'll try your tip. I was never able to figure out which entry in the rdf file to use for expanding the preferences window.

When I first installed Mozilla I downloaded and tried out a few new themes and had problems (missing icon in the component bar was one I remember) which did not go away simply by switching back to classic. I had to UNinstall the added theme (Preferences | Appearance | Themes) .

Added note: Here is what the release notes say, under Known Problems, Preferences FWIW:

Here are some of the Bug Reports on the Preference Window. Some of the speculation points to font choices.
    Bug #86478
    Bug #180942
    Bug #79948

As I am able to view windows unclipped, thought I would give you my font settings in Edit|Preferences|Appearance|Fonts

See if changing your settings to coincide with mine, could benefit you in any way. My Display setting is 800X600, as I said earlier. This might not do a thing, but worth a try.

    Typeface
    Proportional: Serif
    Serif: Times New Roman
    Sans-serif: Arial
    Cursive: Comic Sans MS
    Fantasy: Algerian
    Monospace: Courier New

    Size (Pixels)
    Proportional: 16
    Monospace: 13

Enable: Allow documents to use other fonts

    Display Resolutions: 96dpi

Note that some of the settings are the default.

    supecoop, BillyBob, and others,

Type, or copy the below line into the Location Bar:

    chrome://communicator/content/pref/pref.xul

You should be able to access all Preferences.

Post back and let me know!!! :D

    Ramona

    I copy/pasted into location bar.

    It opens preferences full screen.

It it supposed to open in the Browser Windows and not a separate one ?

Is it supposed to shutdown the browser when I select OK ?

I have a strange feeling somebody is working on some settings.
