Netscape 7.1 Does Not Run

Using Mozilla 1.5b, I decided to do some experimenting.
I removed the existing Profile by copying the *.slt folder to my Backup folder. Deleted it from the Profiles Folder
Then I moved an older *.slt folder into the Profiles Folder,and it worked just fine. Of course this was an existing Moz application.

I have tried this with Netscape 7.02, moving an existing *.slt folder into the Profiles folder BEFORE installing, and was unsuccessful. You can certainly give it a try though, and if it doesn't work then nothing ventured, nothing gained...

Well after thinking about I decided to take the plunge, so I un-installed Netscape, and any registry keys (there were none after uninstall), deleted mozver.dat, deleted the Netscape folder, deleted the Mozilla folder, replaced my old Mozilla folder back in and made sure all the files were not write protected, then re-booted computer, re-installed Netscape (custom), and then said a prayer......

Wow !!! It worked, all my settings, bookmarks, mail, everything was back to normal !!

So I think the hang-up before was the 2 registry keys on Mozilla\GRE, and the mozilla.org folder, and maybe the mozver.dat.

I am fairly certain the 2 registry keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_Software\Mozilla\GRE
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_Software\mozilla.org\GRE\etc...
was the cause of Netscape not launching.

I will let you know if everything holds, so far so good.

That is too cool! You are definitely up and running now. FWIW, I just tried exchanging some backup Profiles I have, with the existing Profile in Netscape 7.1. Worked for me too!

Always in learning mode, aren't we?
