    I'm getting so frustrated! For the life of me I can't get netscape 6.2.3 re-downloaded. I got started and got half way done and then it stalled due to a network connection problem. There was no connection problem. I finally cancelled it. So I went to netscape's site to find where to download it, and the only one I could find was from an ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape6/english/ site. That led me to a download that only took about 1 minute to download. That isn't right.

    Can you lead me to the site to download this please? Uggghhhh!!!!!

    thanks for the link. I'm sorry to say I'm still having problems. I'm beginning to feel like an imbecile. I downloaded N6SetupB, and when I clicked on it to install a box appeared that said: "click the program you want to use to open the file with" and there's a list of programs. I've never had this happen with a download before.

    I notice this box appears also when I click on my netscape 7 download.

    I'm so sorry for all these problems/questions. Any help would be appreciated.

    Is it possible that you didn't download the entire file? Sometimes a large download will stop before the entire file is downloaded, which is why some people use download managers.

    Right click on the file and select "properties "... what is the size of the file? It should be around 25-26 mb for N6.23, around 31-32 for N7.

    I'm fairly certain the whole file downloaded. It said 100%. the file size for 6.2.3 is 25.8 MB and for 7.0 is 31.4 MB.

    Melissa,

    Try cleaning up your Temp file. Do a "Find" for *.tmp. Delete every file that is found.

    Netscape puts a lot of set up files in the Temp directory when installing, and I'm wondering if perhaps your Temp folder is full. You should get an error, if this is the case, but on the other hand, it will do no harm.

    I deleted every file ended in .tmp (there were quite a few), but the same thing is still happening when I try to install 6.2.3 or 7.0. (box appears asking which program I'd like to use to open it). Any more ideas? Thanks so much.

    If you don't really care if it says Netscape or Mozilla, we may can get the version of Mozilla installed that they use as the base for Netscape. It does forgo some of the bells and whistles of Netscape, but the basics are just the same. (mainly it does not include winamp or realplayer, but if you already have those, then why redownload them anyway)

    Here is what you will need to do.

    First thing is to go over to this website and download Mozilla.
    http://www.mozilla.org/releases/stable.html

    I would get the Talkback enabled full installer. It is 9.8 megs, but I have found that it works better than the net installer.

    Now, once you have downloaded it, go ahead and install it.

    When it starts up after the install, it should go ahead and use the 6.23 preferences and profile information that you already have. Including your emails and bookmarks.

    Now, there is one thing that you will need to do after downloading it, since it does not include java built-in. You will need to go over to http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html and install java for.

    You might want to go into your preferences after you install and go to the advanced section in the scripts section and uncheck allow websites to open unrequested windows. This is basically a pop-up stopper.

    If after you get it up and running, you are satisfied with it, you can then manually delete the netscape program.

    Melissa,

    Just to double check, I downloaded both of the netscape files (6.2.3 & 7).

    N6.2.3 = 27,152,608 bytes, 25.8mb
    N7= 32,941,776 bytes, 31.4mb

    Right click, select properties...

    Your files should match exactly.

    Tranquilo,

    Thanks. I checked my file size of 6.2.3 and 7.0 and they match your file size of both files exactly.

    Brooks,

    I read what you said to do. I trust what you say, but I'm a bit leary to do all that myself. Plus I'd prefer the full program. Especially since I have to delete 6.2.3 and reinstall 7.0. What you say to do sounds a tad beyond me. I'll have to ponder it.

    Again, I appreciate the help. This is such a mess!
