    HP,

Back up the Profile Folder on your HD. Create a Backup Folder on your C:\> drive then copy the Profile Folder and paste it into the newly created Backup Folder.

Good Morning :) I just finished reinstalling 7.0 - the only difference this time is I left Net as my home page. I left all other default settings as they were and did not choose any of the "extras ". I'm right back where I started "Alert....connection was refused when attempting to contact www.netscape " instead of refused when contacting KOS. Is there any chance that I could D/L a previous version and just upgrade it to 7.0 and maybe it will "take" ? I have no email right now, so will just check back in later.........thanks, patty.

    HP,

If you're going to reinstall again, I would install Version 7.02. Let me add, however, that you can reinstall until the cows come home, but it won't have any effect on your problem. You will need to create a new Profile.

Instead of using the Netscape Home Page, use "Blank Page" for your startup page. Netscape will start much faster.

:) thanks for all your help & patience :) it is greatly appreciated. I now have Navigator and mail working (I created a new profile). I must admit I can not seem to get my bookmarks, mail etc all transferred to the new profile. I'm very confused as to the instructions "copy from here to there" etc. I have found a file called local folders which contains sent messages, trash etc and I can find a file callled bookmarks.html. after I copy them, where exactly is it that I paste them into?

My husband had exported all our Netscape bookmarks to IE and they are there under imported bookmarks. Can I just export them back from there to here?

Never mind part of the last post - I figured out how to export the bookmarks - all that's left is to recover my mail and I'll be a HAPPY CAMPER !!!! :)

Good going HP, and next time you will know exactly how to create a new Profile, no sweat!

As for your Mail Folders, what part don't you understand:

Copy all the files with no .msf extensions from the OLD profile Mail folder to the NEW Mail folder:
    C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt\Mail\accountname
    (depending on your OS)

Copy the rules.dat file. This is your Mail Filter data, but it may be neccessary to recreate your filters. Personal experience indicates that not all filters transfer correctly. These files are located in:
    C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt\Mail\accountname
    (depending on your OS)

NOTE: In Netscape 7.0 Mail & Newsgroups Account|Server Settings, ensure that the "Local Directory" setting points to the NEW PROFILE folder.

:) THANK YOU :) THANK YOU :) THANK YOU !!!!! I really appreciate all your help - I still haven't managed to get my old mail and bookmarks, but I'm sure they are there somewhere , so I'll just leave that for my hubby to deal with! I'm just thrilled to have the email and browser working.
