There should only be one My Documents folder for each user, at least the one accessed from the start menu, which is located at C:\Documents and Settings\username. Make sure that when browsing to attach, the file types shown is set to All Files (*.*).

You might also check your trusted sites (tools>IE options>security tab) to see if anything has been added. On that thought, maybe when it pops in you could copy and add the address to the restricted sites and make sure the settings for that zone are set to high.

Since Weatherbug has been uninstalled, definitely fix the associated entries with HJT and then delete the AWS folder from C:\Program Files. Clean up with Regseeker.

Your hotmail e-mail failed. I inadvertently sent two with som, ething other than what I intended to send, but at least it was reasonably clean.

I'm going to try one more time.

    Hi RickyD2,

What I meant was to close all windows, browser and explorer, scan with HJT again and put a check in the box next to each of those entries, then click fix.

    I'll check mail again.

Two interesting threads in the last couple of days. This one associated with the same type of popup you're getting. This one concerning Weatherbug.

I'm still not convinced that you have to continue dealing with the popup. You are the only 2 so far experiencing it, well, the only 2 that have come forward with it as a problem. I don't get the prompts

Log looks clean. Only things I see wrong are (1. You have the HijackThis executable in a TIF folder. When you fix something with it, the backups will be placed there too. If you delete your TIFs, it's ALL gone. Make a new folder in C:\ and put it in there. (2. You have several services running that I can see don't need to be. You could either go to Black Viper's Site and follow his suggestions for 'safe' configuation or download Service Controller-XP and set them to the 'safe' configuration. Reboot when done. Then download and run Process Explorer. Open up an IE window then pull up process explorer, click file and save. Make sure none of the processes are highlighted or it will only save the information for that one process instead of all the processes. Surf until you get the popup and immediately make another process explorer log. Post both logs here in separate posts.

Still no email. I reset my filters this morning in case they were getting trashed. Send to the MSN address again.

Well, it's better. :) Right click blank area inside My Documents folder and select new>folder. Name it HijackThis then cut and paste HijackThis.exe into that folder. New path on log will be
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dick\My Documents\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe
No need to post another HJT log though. Just verify that the path is right after saving scan. BTW, you can go ahead and delete all the saved logs, unless you'd like to keep one for future reference.

Well I think I finally resolved the beast that pops up. I was looking thru some stuff I had printed out from my old PC back when I was running Win98SE and discovered that I, indeed did have a NET Passport account and what it was for. I signed in to it and no more popping up. In due time I'll figure out how to close it permanantly and that will be that.

I did create a folder and named it HiJack This but I cannot do a copy and paste of hijack.exe into it - when I click on the folder and it opens, there is no mouse arrow response inside the blank folder window.

So the mystery ends....out of curiosity, since this was a clean install rather than an upgrade (nothing to carry over), how did the net passport follow you to this PC? Username on a mail account maybe, and part of an MSN Community?

You need to right click and cut the .exe then just right click and paste on the folder. No need to open the folder first.

I did indeed have a sign on to an MSN Community way back when and when I re-entered the URL relevant to that, up jumped the beast.

My only excuse is age related lessening of mental agility. That, or a brain cramp.

Thanks again to all who were so much help.
