MSN problems [HJT log]

One other thing; in the last few days, google changed their login proceedure (this has disrupted folks using gmail drives) . It is possible that MSN is in the process of doing the same thing to deal with an upcomming update/ patch which will be released. Remember the problems when they released the patch which was designed to block pfishing and resulted in yahoo custom login pages not working.

Yes.

I don't see anything nasty running - McAfee would crowd it out anyway

What I do see is a lot of Browser Helper Objects runnning in IE with a very good possibility of conflicts. It would also explain why you can't change IE settings.

Lets try disabling them. IE tools > Manage add-ons and highlight each BHO to disable.

You can do this one of two ways: disable them all at once and see what the result is, or disable one a time. For reference and info - this post is about IE problems where BHO's turned out to be the problem http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=47792

FYI: this is a known cause of problems, it's a Dell installed search tool bar

MSN Problems

Hi Charles....

I disabled 12 of them, hope that is what I was to do. But now I can't open my email, it freezes up on me. I'm a BIG MESS I guess,I need to know more about what I am doing? maybe I'm just to old to learn

The "depth charge" method wasn't a good way for you, that obviously caused a problem.

Re enable them, then do it the other way - disabling one by one would be better. Meaning - disable one, run for awhile and see the effects.

I have seen several cases where a popup killer sees the login script as a popup and blocks it.
You may want to try disabling all popup killers.

Also, if you have not done it yet, double check the time on the clock at lower right . If it is off by more than a few minutes, often secure servers and mail servers will reject your login; thinking you are a spammer or hacker .

 

MSN Problems

I disabled the Macafee popup, but can't get into my MSN email as they are having problems and said it would take several hours to fix. I can get onto the INTERNET with INTERNET explorer though. Will check tomorrow again.

Run HijackThis again so we can see what this is.

Read thru the 3 "sticky's" at the top of the security sections by Lonny and noahdfear - a long read but well worth it. It would help you avoid nasties.

Hi idaholady,

The origin of some of your problems is this:
C:\Program Files\TimeSink\AdGateway\TsAdBot.exe

This delivers ads and keeps tabs on your "movements ".

Hold off on doing anything for now until someone expert in removal takes a look at your log.
