I am doing my regular manual MS Windows Update on my older XP-Pro (with SP2) that usually works fine but this time the 4 new Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and Sp2 fail to install.

Is this something I should worry about?

If you are arriving from a search engine experiencing problems with .NET Framework installations, please see today's thread on the issue.

    Hello,

What is the Error your getting while trying to install .NET Frameworks 3.5 SP1 ? Most of the time it happens when a previous version is corrupted i.e. .NET Frameworks 2.0. You might need 3.5 because there are few applications that uses 3.5 version. If nothing works uninstall all the versions of .NET from Add or Remove Programs then run the .NET Cleanup Tool http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx then reboot and download 1.0 to 3.5 and install it.

    Good Luck,
    Captain

    Captain,

The error says "The following updates were not installed...."

    FWIW Add/Remove currently shows:

    1.1
    2.0 SP2
    3.0 SP2
    3.5 SP1

If you don't post back, I'll delete etc as you indicated.

PS: What exactly does .Net do (particularly if it is corrupted)?

    Tks

    Hello Mate,

Lot of applications are build using .NET Frameworks like MS Office etc. So i would recommend to uninstall all of them just follow the procedure i mentioned before you should be good.

    Hope this helps,
    Captain
