Cal E and JRBC try this:

In TB go into Tools>Account Settings and click on the Outgoing Server (SMTP) under Local folders.

Then in the dialog box that pops up: Under Security and Authentication make sure the box next to "Use name and password" is UNCHECKED

Hopefully that will cure your problem with outgoing mail.

    Post back your results.

John B- thanks for your popping in to help. However I tried what you suggested but my "User name and pswd" was already unchecked.

Another suggestion perhaps. THANKS and hope you can think of another thing to try.

    Desperate!

As a comparison, I use TB 3.0.4 but I do not use RR as my ISP. My SMPT settings are as follows:

Description: (no entry, it is blank)

Server Name: smpt.xxxx.xxx (the x's are my ISP domain name)

    Port: 25 (the default value)

    Security and Authentication:

Use name and password box is checked

User Name: xxxxxxxxx (my user name at my ISP)

Use secure authentication box is not checked

Connection security: none (the options in the drop down list are: none, STARTTLS and SSL/TLS)

I have never had any problems using TB as my email client, in or out. And I started using it very early in version 2.

    My settings are:

Description - myname@tampabay.rr.com (if you have a ".cfl" after my name, I was told by Brighthouse that is for Orlando customers - I'm out of tampa.)

    Server name - smtp-server.rr.com

    Port - 25

Security and authenication - no checks

    Connection security - none

As I remember it, I was told no security or anthentication was to be used.

One more cavet just to add to the mystery.

In FL, I was also still using my former Comcast account also, and the send and recieve both worked. The only hitch was that I got mailings from both my accounts deliverd to the Comcast server, which meant a message in the tampabay account also got deliverd in the Comcast one (sometimes even with a second "echo" one). It was shortly after I deleted my TB Comcast account that my send problem appeared. I can't be sure how soon, because during that time I returned to PA and started using a generous and trusting neighbors wireless line.

    Hope this helps.

And when you click on account settings/outgoing server you only have 1 account showing in the right hand box? More then 1 can cause outgoing problems, if they are not set up just right.

Grump 642 -- I have my main acct and two others that I use for business and my husbands acct. They have always been there. the problem as I said before just started 3 days ago and I have been using the computer etc with mozilla over a year already.

Something else is screwing it up! I just don't know what yet.

As you can see from my previous email my settings are what you all have talked about.

Grump - in answer to your question -- yes when I go to the main acct - there is only one acct on the right side.

When you highlight that one outgoing server, and then click edit, do you then see the option to change authentication method? If so, try setting it to "normal password ".

OK, I am using version 3.1b2 so it might be different. When you highlight your outgoing server on the right and hit edit, what comes up?

Can you set Authentication Method to Normal Password? If so, do.

Sorry, but cannot get to enter "Normal Password" either.

Question, how fo you get to have TB version 3.1b2?

When I check for updates, I am told I have the latest one - 3.0.4.

JRCB - I didn't know you had the 3.1b2. I saw it in one of Grump642's postings.

Did you load that before or after your problems began?

I am leery of upgrading to that version because I found it on the TB home page and there are cautions that there are still some potential bugs with it. I'd hate to compound my situation.

I am on 3.0.4 - not the one you mentioned. I loaded it after my problem. My problem had been going on for 3 days -- it was after the 3 days tht I saw the upgrade and loaded it thinking that maybe it would solve the problem. It hasn't helped.

I am using 3.1b2, which turned into RC1, yesterday. The settings may a bit different than in 3.0.4, but, basically, to send mail one goes to Tools|account Settings|Outgoing Server(SMTP)|Edit, and I get Connection security:none, and Authentication method: No authentication. There may be some differences in the Accounts proper (I use one SMTP for all eight accounts), but the choices are always the same SSL, TLS or nothing.
There may be more detail in 3.1, but, basically, things have not changed.
Very important: I must set up TB3.x manually, because the automatic method is clueless. At best, it gives incorrect servers, and in the worst cases incorrect connection as well. That's why I don't care for 3.0.4. #.1 is a bit more with it!
