Sorry if this is in the wrong section but I think that I may be thinking that something is more difficult than it is and can't find a section for basic problems.
I am building a higher spec PC and would just like to transfer everything, all files, internet software and my XP Pro OS en bloc. What is the best way to do this, if it is possible?
    Your help would be appreciated.

Guessing that you familar with the term DRIVERS....You can try the following...but if I were building a new machine - I'd do a fresh install.

How to replace the motherboard on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000

We encourage all members to complete their System Specifications which help us to help you :)

I have no idea which OS you are using :)

    Two methods .....

Install the existing hard drive in the new m/c and make a Repair install and load the chipset drivers.

Install the existing hard drive into the new m/c and use disk cloning software to transfer the OS etc to the new drive.
Acronis will do the job, but several hard drive manufacturer's also provide the required software - for free. I have used the trial version of Acronis Migrate Easy successfully in the past.
