Thanks ran the Service Tag. Not much troubleshooting information in either the User's or the Service Manuals.

My thoughts are that the 1st. owner has wiped the disc using Delpart or the like which has wiped the Recovery Partition. They installed an OS and there has been no copy made. Possibly now the disc is failing and the decision has to be made whether it's worth while installing a new Hard Drive and an OS. Am I correct in noting this model was introduced in 2006? Neil.

I am in this situation because of a stupid mistake I made. The comp was working fine and had 75% free space.
I wanted to switch to a remote monitor which was much bigger but didn't know about the fn/f8 buttons. I went into control panel, advanced settings and disabled the laptop monitor thinking it would switch to the other monitor.

I thank all of you for trying. Am on fixed income (retired) and can't afford even a $200 model. Food and rent come first of course.
    God will provide.
Again, thank you all very much.
Nice to know there are good people willing to help without expecting something in return.
    God bless you.
I will still monitor this page in case someone discovers something new for me to try.

Don't forget to send your business friend a Xmas card and offer to look after any laptops he may need a good home for. ;) Neil.
