I bought the card locally along with the MB, CPU, RAM.

The only way to find out if you have an AGP slot or not is to check the Manual or Open the hood and look.

The PCI slots are usually White.

The AGP slot sits further back on the MB than the PCI slots and is usually Brown.

As to the install. That may depend on the MB. I had to make sure the 4-in-1 drivers were installed into Windows before AGP would work.

I am not sure about this but, some MBs may have drivers that install before Windows.

You really do not need to get that specific card. I just mentioned it because I changed from the Voodoo ( PCI ) and had no problems.

There are also fairly inexpensive PCI cards available. And you know that you have PCI slots.

Other than the above I really can't say too much as I do not know what you have for a Motherboard. Every make may have a different way of setting things up.

If you can find out what MB you have maybe some one esle can help out.

I am somewhat lucky. Both of my MBs have VIA Chipsets and use the same 4-in-1 drivers.

I found a video card like yours but it is 16 MB---the voodoo I have now is a 16 mb--does that mean that a 32 mb would not work? Should I get the 16 mb card? I found it at comp U.S.A. Also what are the chances that the new card will fix my computer? Thanks.

I see no reason why it would not work.

I found a good, cheap card that should keep my computer running unil I get a new computer. The card is a:
3D Prophet 4000XT Video Card, 32MB, AGP review
Do you know anything about this card? It's a 32 MB card--it should work.

I do not know about the card you mention but I have a 3D Prophet II MMX 16meg and I have had no problems with it whatsoever.

I do wish you much good luck with it.

Two last questions before I hopefully reply back telling about how happy I am that my computer works. First--will the installation of the new card remove all of my old voodoo stuff? And is there a good chance that the card will fix an error i'm having while I play computer games that run on a Quake 3 engine. The error says-
GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem

Minor question--the store i'm getting the card from (comp-USA) says that they will intsall it for free after I buy it. Should I trust them and let them do it or should I try to do it myself? Thanks.

Just make sure there is nothing for Voodoo, Nvidia or 3dfx in the INF and INF\OTHER folders and that part should be OK.

And is there a good chance that the card will fix an error i'm having while I play computer games that run on a Quake 3 engine.

I would like nothing better than being able to say a frim YES but I can't not. Based on my own experiences with Voodoo cards I would say it should.

As to who installs the card. It is your choice.

Either way I would make sure that the existing card is removed from the device manager ( while in the safe mode ) before shutting the machine down for the physical removal of the card.

Yep. My computer is fixed. My life has returned to normal except for some of my games that don't work as well as they used to--unreal tournament wont work at all but i'm working on the problem. The new card also fixed that error I was getting while trying to play games that ran on a quake 3 engine. Other than the games the performance of the card is perfect. Thanks for your help.
