HI, I am missing a windows file called.

Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchIndexer.exe (file missing)

also Java has update for 6-20 and I have 6-18, but when trying to update it it comes back saying The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. I have cable internet and never had a problem with java updating before. But I can get on the internet with no problem.

I do not have a cd for sp3, I only have the mircosoft windows xp home edition sp2. my computer was build and I have windows xp, ie8,sp3 on it.

Hi Tigger2004 Welcome to WindowsBBS. :)

Regarding your Java Issue, have you tried using JavaRA to remove old versions and update to the latest?

Regarding Searchindexer.exe, were you doing any housekeeping/maintenance (eg uninstalling unused software etc) on the computer before this error started appearing?

no I have not tried JavaRA, I was read it, but did not see a download to remove old verison, can not remove it in add and remove.

as for the missing file not sure what happened, I do a atf cleaner and a ccleaner just about every other day. I was on the computer and it closed out saying internet explorer in countered a problem and then the screen went blue and said Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchIndexer.exe (file missing)
I restarted the computer and it works, but it will do this about every two week.

Run System File Checker - it will involve a bit of work on your part :)

First slipstream SP3 into your SP2 CD ......

Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Create Bootable CD

Then run System File Checker .....

Start > Run > type in sfc /scannow > Enter - note the space in the command.

You may be asked to insert your slipstreamed SP3 disk.

This may solve your issue, but no guarantees :)

HJT or similar logs are not permitted in the OS forums and, BTW, you have an outdated version of HJT.

If you wish to post in the Malware & Virus Removal forum ....

Please read this as indicated at the head of the forum and post the logs requested in a new thread.

Have you tried removing the older versions of Java through Add/Remove Programs?

Have you tried downloading the offline installer for Java update 20 ?

I have a question, I was looking around on my computer and seen ie7 and sp2 and when I ran belarc it shows sp1

I updated my computer awhile ago to ie8 and sp3 could this be the problem.

I still need to read how to do the slipstream, but will not be able to for a couple of days. Because of my work hours.

also how do I free up the hard drive says, I have very little.

    I know, it shows sp3.

ok I updated my java, but it only updated because I forgot to uncheck msn toolbar this time, why would it only update if msn toolbar was checked and do I have to keep msn toolbar.

Do you still have your original problem? File Missing? or has that been restored?
Has your Java error been fixed?
BTW my Belarc Report shows MS XP SP3 on left top side of page. Scrolling down to the MS KB's, it starts with SP3. There is no info relating to SP2 at all. Neil.

Go to Control Panel/AddorRemove programs and remove the MSN tool bar.
