    BillyBob:

BB :The regular AVG should be O.K. Also the new Beta one with the Firewall had the uninstall as part of the install of the new one.

Check out the web site if you are interested ? http://www.grisoft.com/doc/AvgPlusFw/lng/us/tpl/tpl01 ,but I don't suggest using it, not just yet, anyway?

My icons are all still O.K. so this problem is more than likely solved.

P.S. Before I reinstall AVG I will be sure "the best that I can" that my system is ready for it. Thanks Lenny

Apparently that did not work as it should have. ( the uninstall part )

Be carefull here. If you want to re-install the Regular AVG. You have done too much work to mess it up again.

Make VERY sure the best you can that neither Norton or any part of the old AVG does not exist.

As to the new containing the uninstall for the old. DO NOT COUNT 100% on it working It is one of those things that SHOULD work but many times don't. Especially if the old install was somewhere other than the DEFAULT path. Or if ny chance the old had been installed ( or attempts too ) more than once. And if there happens to be any problems with the old there may be problems too. I have run into that problem more than once.

I have found it best to uninstall the old and run things like RegSeeker to clean up any leftovers.

As you can read I AGREE And you are welcome.

Glad that you got the Icon problem fixed anyway.

BB:As you can see, I read , absorb, and do everything that you say?

Hey, I even turned off my computer for a little while, and went around the whole Lodge and found my loved ones, and gave them a hug each ,except for my Wonderful Wife, and she got hugs and a whole bunch of kisses.

Because as you said "You never know ", My 38 year old cousin had a massive Heart Attack two days ago. they unplugged his respirator yesterday. he never made it, he is gone. His Funeral is being planned as I write, so your prayers for Brian's Wife and young family would be appreciated.

OH!! By the way my SYSTRAY icons are still, showing up where they are suppose to, even through many many turn ons and offs, Lenny Chowns

Not only from Lenny's experience but my own, I write this for the benifit of others that may run across the same problem. Or at least a place to start.

And if any Moderator thinks it should be somewhere separate then feel free to do so. Or if it is wrong send it down the road to nowhere.

I wish more users would do that as it does help greatly.

As I have said other times. " just because the Desktop shows, it does not mean the machine over all is ready to go. "

On my side of things I have to also watch the lights on my LAN switch. It checks every piece of Equipment ( 2 other PCs and Printer) that is on at the time. And apparently more than once. And I if I do not wait things may not work properly. And I have to be carefull if and when I am doing something that requires a restart. I just fired up a 98SE machine and it reacts exactly the same way.

This says to me that there was something in the Startup Group resluting in a conflict. The same was the cause of my mis-behaving systray/notictcation area Icons. I have had it on both 98SE and XP Pro. And I have also had cases on the machines of Family members.

I believe this all started with and attempt to install a newer AV program which went wrong. I believe Lenny tried to uninstall which did not work properly as it never installed properly.

Cleaning up a machine after a bad install/unistall is one of the toughest jobs I have had.

Lenny did some great work. See #12 here.

So as it appears to be that there was a so called " ILLEGAL Entry " in the startup group. Using Startup Cop is one of the first things I run to check and make sure and uninstall has taken any possible entry out of same.
