Microsoft is going to scrap the Internet Explore brand for a new browser.

Does it matter to me? Why does it matter to me? Why should we put any expectation on that thing now? What we are expecting, have been fulfilled by other browsers, so far. What do Microsoft hope to provide from the new thing? Just call it a "Door ", how's that?

"Door" - Microsoft Windows to the World. I suggest and have suggested over 10 years ago.

Why don't Microsoft just debut a new thing, with new features, new power and quietly retire Internet Explorer, when the new thing ready?

Just because Microsoft has a new team, and the new team leader doesn't want to "maintain" an old stuff, and wants to "create" something new, on his / her resume?

What kind of product strategy is that? Hopeless, isn't it?

I like Internet Explorer. Better than the other junk that's out there.

Because I still have an XP machine, I can't upgrade beyond IE8. I don't mind, as I'm used to its odd quirks and can work around them. I just hope the IE replacement hasn't just replaced the title page!

I'm about to get (in the next few months, anyway) a new Windows lap-top. It won't be one of the spectacular $1800 ones, more like <$300. My concern is that it will come with an IE that's already obsolete. Most of my browser use is on Chrome, but I'm forced into some use of IE because web-sites are IE only. I'll be taking the old box off-line and using it for Quicken and photo editing.

I'll have to get used to Win 8.1, but since I started out in the UK with Algol scientific language on a vacuum tube Elliot 803 computer back in 1966, I can probably figure it out! My first exposure to Windows was 3.0.
