It now appears that how WMP is installed does make a diffference. Or may be it did not install correctly.

I did the following but I DO NOT recommend it to the Faint at Heart.

I went to the SE machine, found and removed the two files that were mantioned in the post by Ramona.

    I then deleted the C:\Prog flies\WMP folder.

I then used Norton Win Doctor to clean app 80 references from the Registry.

Restarted Windows, installed WMP6.4. It not only works better and faster but now shows up in add/remove.

Also installed the update and all seems to be well again.

Thanks for that interesting info BillyBob. I would try it but the only application I use for the registry is RegClean (Microsoft's old utility) which I doubt would accurately remove such entires. If I were to do the manual uninstall which Ramona described but left those registry entries it may give an error on boot up since the registry entries are there pointing to something which no longer exist on the HD? What do you think about that?

It most certainly could ( or would ) . Thats why I said I do not recommed my way to anyone. It takes time and careful checking on what WinDoctor wants to do.

It would not be the first time that has happened to me. But I knew what caused it so I could easily fix it.

But I just had to find out why it was in add/remove on 2 machines and not the 3rd.

But, as usual I MADE SURE I had a backup of the reg before I started. It would not be the first time if I had to scanreg /restore and start over.

:) And may not be the last either :D

I do have a good backup program where, if necessary, I could easily restore my registry and any other files. The program has saved my "derrier" many a times. :D I may give it a try sometime, but for now it's not that big of a deal.
