Newt: First snag, I have no "local users and groups" categorey in sytem management console. That is, right click computer, left click "manage" No such item.

But, who expected it to go as planned? Not me!

Local users and groups not available in XP Home. From run, type control userpasswords2. Click advanced tab and advanced button.
You can change group type, Admin, Standard user or Restricted user, but thats about it.

My bad Martin. You did specify that you run XP-home and somehow I read it that you had XP-pro and gave instructions for that OS. So the confusion was totally my fault. Oops. (or maybe I just flashed back to a post where you said you were going to get Pro and sorta moved that into present tense. ah well, no matter)

Have I mentioned that I never used XP-home?

I THINK that you can set security on XP-home if you log in to safe mode as the administrator after converting the file system to NTFS. But I am not at all sure all the normal options are there. Hopefully they are.

Have I mentioned that I never liked XP-home?

    Hey Newt:

Not that I remember, but from reading your posts over the last couple of years, I kinda got that impression. If and when I go to Pro though, it will only be this machine, not all three home networked.

I mean, we're talking $500.+ for OEM Pro for all. I have some other things that are slightly more important, like the rent etc.

I've already blown the computer budget for the year with a new Athalon 2800 Plus CPU and a Sapphire ATI Radeon 9800 Pro video card. If my wife finds out, I'm a dead duck.:D

I have not yet converted Chris's machine to NTFS, Installing that card and getting it to work ate up the better part of two days, Now I'm trying to get it to work as advertised. The CPU went in without a hitch though.

Back to the topic at hand, I know there is a way to set permissions, I have been in there, I don't remember how, let me poke around for a while and when I get in there see if it can be set as per your previous post suggested. If I can do that, can we continue with the .reg file for turning on & off??

    Your assistance is always appreciated.

Thanx, take your time, I'm in no hurry. Also, I pried around on the permission thing, I'll have to post to to bbs to get the skinny on that.
